Sprint 2.1 getting very close

that's it, that was my final straw!...time to root and enjoy, enough with this bs.

That's exactly what I will be doing this weekend. What's the best 2.1 ROM out seeing there's a couple? Hopefully I don't brick my Hero. Can't be much different from doing an itouch or psp cus I've done plenty of those. Looks like ill be reading up on a lot in the forums Saturday night!

being a former windows mobile user, i find all this crying and such quite funny. android at 1.5 is soooo much better than any version of windows mobile, imo. you learn real quick after owning a windows mobile phone that you better root and get a custom rom before you've even finished charging the battery right out of the box. granted i have not rooted my hero, i have no doubt the time will come. for now though, the phone works just fine...all i really "want" from 2.1 is being able to use multiple gmail accounts. and if sprint can update, whenever that may be, and everything seem ok and the phone is still rootable, then i'll be all over it.

I've used Fresh 2.0d and DamageControl's latest. They're both good & very stable in my humble opinion. Personal preference will be your guide. Once you're rooted, flashing different ROMs is easy, so you can try them out til you find one you like.

Just dig in and follow the directions over at xda. You won't be sorry, even if the official release comes in sooner rather than later.

Oh, and once you're rooted, always, ALWAYS, do a nandroid backup before you flash anything new. So long as you follow that one rule, you'll never look back.

lol. Amen to that. I can't imagine the poor fellow still sitting there staring at their stock WinMo 6.1 device. As a former WinMo user of many, many years, that's probably the main reason it took me so long to root. I was in such awe at having a customizable, working phone that didn't reboot every time I wanted to place a call that I was convinced I must be at the apex of smartphone technology.

Are they coming up with the next version of windows or updating a phone operating system.Windows 8 will be out before Htc and Sprint can get their act together on 2.1.

Why???

Sprint hasn't missed any "deadlines"... all that has happened is that rumors have proved to be false.

:)

Thanks! I'll defiantly try them out

So I just called BestBuy and they have the update. I am rooted, but I am always game to try things out, so I think tonight I will have them try the update. The mobile manager is a friend, so we are going to try it without un-rooting first, if it fails, I figure I have the ruu to get it back to original and we will try it again.

Has anyone done the update yet?

I was just reading some more on this, my friend doesn't go in til 3pm, but said as of last night it was still a go for today. I guess later tonight when I stop by I will find out.

I dunno how that is possible considering Sprint just sent out an official tweet saying they are still working on it.

I am standing in best buy and they have no clue about the 2.1 update. Didnt even know it would be OTW

Good luck with that since every other indication we have received the last couple days has been that it will not be out today. If he really has it, you gotta post it here for us to look at too. :)

Although to be honest, as much as I love my Hero and expect the EVO to be a super phone, considering my $69.99 plan has $8 in taxes on top of that I am certainly considering just getting on the new virgin mobile $25 all you can eat data plan. How bad could the LG Rumor Touch be after all?

Thank god for my 25% employee discount, lmfao!

I went by my local sprint store and asked about the update. Im real cool with the guys and they said it was suppose to come out today but do to the software not allowing the phone to work as a phone, they pulled it back. In fact one tech had the update to demo and it would not allow calls. So the newest possible time frame is mid to late May with a definate by May 29th.

The release would have happened today if the phone worked. All sprint employees had to finish Android 2.1 training by May 2nd.

With Sprint knowing how people are anxiously waiting a long time for this update the least they could do is give us a progress report on what's going on. That way people would feel a little better rather then being misled by these update rumors. A beta version would be cool too. just a appetizer before the main meal.

Does anyone else find it odd that HTC and Sprint wouldn't have noticed until after they sent out the update to the local stores that it no longer could make or receive phone calls?

I have heard it all now. Nothing like monkeys flucking a football.

What a joke.

Just rooted an hour ago with DamageControl.

Awesome!!!
