Root Sprint telling me I can't activate a rooted phone?

Plus it came up randomly tonight saying a had a traditional voicemail, yet there was nothing there. Odd.

Any advice to get rid of it?

Doubt it will get rid of it, due to what this person says. "On receipt of new voicemail, a text from "9016" will be sent to your phone. I'm using the basic CM7 MMS app and haven't figured out how to stop these notification texts, but that's a minor annoyance to have SVVM back!"

Might have to be an annoyance I have to deal with too.

Back to this forum again! I wanted to ask your assistance ocnbrze since you were so helpful before in helping me.

So... a couple days ago I dropped my EVO and cracked the screen. So I figured it may be time to get a new phone. I did find a used Nexus S 4G for around $80 and was thinking about buying it. How is it's performance compared to my EVO 4G? Also, a huge question I wanted to ask you was whether or not the Nexus S had a huge following of developers and if it had a rom that had the built in (free, hacked) hot spot similar to CM7 rom I am running on my EVO that you helped me with. Suggestions?

The Nexus 4G I'm getting will not be rooted, and this is something I have never done before. Do you think it's possible for me to be capable of rooting it and then putting a rom on it by myself?

If you could help me again that would be awesome. I'm just scared if I try to do something like this myself I will mess up the phone.

Also do you think $80 for a Nexus S 4G is a good deal?

Just thought I would post here and talk with you before posting something over in the Nexus S side of the forum, since you were so helpful last time

Any Ideas on the best rom out there right now with the hacked free hotspot? And the best step by step (since I'm still a noob) to root and install a ROM.

Rooting is different for each device, so I would start by navigating to the nexus S 4g's all things root forum here. There should be a step by step guide in the sticky at the top of the forum.

I have no knowledge of any of the ROMS for that device. You'll have to look through the OP's of the forum I linked you or ask for advice in android forums nexus page while you are there looking for rooting instructions.

Correct. To keep it simple, the ROM is basically the software that runs on the phone. The kernel is the link between the ROM software and the hardware that is the physical device of the phone. The kernel controls things like power to the CPU.

Good idea. But before I purchase the phone, I was going to figure out if there are any roms that have the free built in hacked hotspot like the EVO. Because I would need to have that in my new phone. Is it pretty much standard on all roms?

If not, you can always download tethering apps from the market
 
They are free and as long as your on the Sprint unlimited data plan there would be no charge.

I tried several before I rooted and Klink is my favorite.....pdanet was ok, but Klink seemed much faster
 
Thanks for the extra info.....I hadn't tried any tethering since I rooted because I didn't have the need to
 
I work for sprint... The reason why sometimes we cant activate rooted phones is because we cant always do a profile update to sync the phone with the network. That is the only reason. Normally if an Evo shows up at work and i cant activate it. I usually flash a stock sprint rom to activate it. Or if they want me to unroot it then thats why I do. Thanks to this forum i been able to help out a lot of people. So thanks guys. ;)
 
I have a question about backup. If you do the backup before the activation- then change the rom to activate, but want to go back to the previous state - the one you backed up, will the phone stay activated if you go to restore it?
