Root Sprint telling me I can't activate a rooted phone?

only if he ports one for the 3vo as well.:D

OCNBRZE, I need some much needed wisdom from you. As of recently every time I try to use my camera it goes to the camera function and then every 2 seconds the screen goes blank for 2 seconds, then the camera goes blank for 2 seconds, then back to black screen for 2 seconds, etc, etc. Basically making my camera useless and not being able to use it because the screen goes blank every 2 seconds.

So what I accidentally did was go back and reeboted it to run on the only backup I had logged in my phone from back in November. Sure enough it was the Cyanogen 7 mod that I got on the phone when I first got it. So I thought oh well, not a huge deal, I'll try out this ROM since its already activated on Sprint under my name and the 4g wasn't working for some reason either. I figure if I ever needed to sell my phone in the future when I upgrade, I can just follow your directions on how you walked me through putting on the mikg in the first place and reload it back on. I soon realized I couldn't find a hacked hotspot program on this Cyanogen 7 ROM...

So my question is..... Is there a hacked hotspot program on this Cyanogen 7 ROM somewhere? Is there a way I can get one on it if there isn't? I like that my 4g is working on this Cyanogen 7 mod but miss having the hacked wireless hotspot from MikG. If I go back to the MikG ROM is there a way to get my 4g working on it?

Thanks again!

cm7 has its own hotspot. it should be in the wireless settings. and unfortunately the hacked hotspot does not work with aosp roms. it is only good on sense roms which most sense roms have it cooked in anyways.

Is there a difference between the hacked hotspot on Mikg and the one built in on the CM7 ROM? I don't mind sticking with CM7 to try it out for a bit. But I do have a question, not sure if you know much about CM7, but when I am using the stock browser and I turn the phone to landscape view, the browser wont let me move up and down the page or zoom in or out... it's odd. I thought maybe there's some setting I need to undo to let me browse in landscape mode... but haven't figured out how yet... maybe its just a bug I can't fix? I have no clue...

Also, if I end up hating this (cm7) ROM and want to go back to mikG, is there a way to get my 4G to turn on?

i really have not seen any difference between the two hotspot hack to be honest with you.

and i do not like the stock browser on either aosp or sense so i use dolphin so i'm not sure on the stock browser. i do not recall a landscape mode.

not sure what you mean about 4g. both roms have 4g

I think he's saying his 4g isn't working...

and since he bought his phone on ebay, I hope he still has wimax keys. cross your fingers, op, and download this wimax checker app and pray it finds keys for your phone

eta. oops. reading comprehension fail. I see that 4g works on cm7 so you're definitely good with your wimax keys. never mind.

This is the perfect example of why I like this forum so much. There are no egos and everyone is willing to help each other out. Always recommending and giving options to posters. Someone could've easily said "go read root for dummies" with an attitude but instead it was here are your options and let us know if you run into any problems so we can continue to help.

As for the hot spot issue I like to use Wireless Tether For Root users which has been posted above. Mainly because the baked hot spot isn't as simple or it wont tether in 4G (my experience). I hope you enjoy your new rooted phone and remember that almost anything on this phone can be customized, such as bootanimation to the theme of the rom.

Thanks for recommending the dolphin browser! Thanks for being so helpful!

Yeah, It was really weird that every time I checked the 4g box to turn it on.... nothing would happen... I wouldn't get a icon on my notification bar or anything. When I eventually upgrade to something new, I will probably convert it back to mikG so when I sell it the buyer won't have the problems I did.

But I am happy that the 4g works on CM7 now.

no worries, glad you like dolphin.

good i was worried that you might have lost your wimax keys like jackgibbs suggested might be happening. and if you are on amon ra, i would make sure to check wimax and save that nandroid backup on your computer and on the cloud like dropbox. after you have made that one nandroid backup then you do not have to save wimax every time you make a nandroid backup.

I agree so much, I see others go to other forums and just get ripped into because they are new to this and don't know much of anything like me. I love this place and how everybody is very helpful. I thank everybody for how they helped me get up and going on a phone I considered deemed useless at first. Big thanks goes out to everybody who helps out others when they are in need.

I do have a problem though with cm7 at the moment though...

CM7 doesn't have visual voicemail already installed on it.... so I looked on the market to see if I could download it... sure enough... it's not anywhere on the market. (I'm assuming that it may only be pre-installed on stock phones??? I don't know). Anyways... my question is... Is there a way to get visual voicemail on CM7? The only thing close to it I found on the market was something called YouMail... which seems like a bad knockoff compared to some reviews. Help!

well you could flash this gapps file:
gapps-modified-vvm-20110828.zip

this one has gapps plus sprint's vvm cooked in.

Kinda confused, whats gapps? I'm guessing I would put this zip file somewhere on my sd card? So confused.

well do you have the market? or any google apps?

gapps stands for google applications. the cyanogen mod team was told by google that they could not put any goggle apps in their roms so they made a gapps file that you flash in recovery. so yes download and put the file on your card. then go into recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache and flash the gapps file. the one i lined has the sprints vvm cooked in.

I ended up downloading wimax checker, and it was there (yipee!). Whats a nandroid backup? I'm assuming just a way to back up the operating system? Is it an app?

Yes I have the market, I was asked upon switching over to the cm7 rom on start up if I wanted a few google apps downloaded, I said yes to the market, navigation, and Gmail. Didn't see Visual voicemail though...

Going to try out the zip file you recommended and see if it works... I'll report back once I'm done.

ok you must have flashed the gapps file at the same time with cm7 when you flashed it.

a nandroid backup is a complete snapshot of your phone. nandroid backups are your friend. anytime you start messing around with your phone, it is a good idea to make a nandroid backup just in case something goes wrong or you want to go back to a certain point in time.

i would also switch recoveries to amon ra or the new amon ra style recovery. my suggestion is that you read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. it has sections on how to switch recoveries and how to flash roms and other useful information. please take the time to read it when you get a chance.

It say the disk is write protected... and remove the write protection or use another disk.... Its not letting me put it on the SD card...

Confused, what do you mean by flash the gapps file at the same time as cm7? How do I do this?

yeh i am just as confused because you have the market which you only can get it by flashing the gapps file with cm7. by law cm7 cannot have any google apps in their roms. google has sent them a cease and desist letter stating that they cannot have their apps in the rom. so they made it that you have to flash it seperately. so i'm confused on how you have the market when you flashed the cm7.

anyways just flash the gapps file i gave you and all should be good.

that is weird. is this a new card? it might be a glitch or something. do you have the phone set as disk drive(forget what cm7 calls it)?

I not familiar with the term flash. Like I said I tried to drag the file over to the SD card but it gave me that error I posted in my above post. Sorry, I feel bad when I don't know all the terms yet, lol.

no worries that is what this forum is for. flashing is what is done in recovery. it is how zip files are installed on your phone.
I read this http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/233394-how-do-i-flash-zip-file.html

But it wasn't any help.... because I can't even get the gapps zip folder onto my SD card.

:( help!

ok you have to be careful what you read. that thread was from the motorolla droid forum. they are completely different phones.

so this is what i would do first i would copy the content of your card to your computer and then format the card. this will delete your cards content. once formatted then you can copy the card's content back to the card and then try again.
