Root Statusbar mod question?

I know it's silly, but does anyone know how I might mod my statusbar so that when I am connected to hsdpa, it would show as 4g?

What I do is I already have a folder on my sd card of images that I like better than the stock images. The 4G icons instead of H+ and the notification pull down line that lights up when pressed. I prefer the 4.1 line and not the 4.2 line that has the background.

Whenever I flash an update to my ROM I extract the contents of systemUI. Copy my images and add it to it's respective place. Zip it back up. Change the .zip to.apk and replace the current SystemUI.apk. Reboot.

Takes all of 2 minutes.

Whether flashing a new rom or pulling from current rom, modifying the SystemUI.apk is the most direct approach if you already have the icons you want. My understanding is that any png image in a drawable folder can be replaced with another of choice. I may be wrong.
Using zipthemer takes about one minute but rebooting into recovery, flashing, and rebooting accounts for the other probably 8 minutes--really more like 4 or 5. Either way, it's a pretty quick fix.

Yup. It's as easy as dragging and dropping PNG files into the drawable-xhdpi, assuming the user is experienced enough with decompiling/compiling apks. If anyone is interested in T-Mobile's LTE icon, I ripped the one out of the stock Note 2 ROM.

Thanks everyone! I used zipthemer to do this and absolutely love the results. I'm going to use this to get battery percentage on stock (well, now slightly modified stock)

Do you mind posting your icon folder? I'd be interested in seeing what you use and maybe using some of them myself.
