Root Steps to take when upgrading SD after DT.a2sd?

I have recently installed DT.a2sd and absolutely love it. But, now I want to upgrade my sd card from an 8gb to a 16gb sd. But I am unsure what steps to take without losing my sys or dat that are on my card now. Sorry for the noob thread.

not a problem, actually a good question. One way to do it is using a linux distro, or live cd Linux will read and write to the partition copy all the info to the computer and then copy it back when you have created the new partitions on the new card.

Other ways are using programs that can read and write the ext2-4

I am also enjoying dt's a2sd and I'm definately itching to go to an 8 or 16 GB, class 10 card. I was wondering if this simple route would work for switching over to a new card.
1. Move and rebuild dalvik cache from sd back to phones internal memory
2. Swap with new card
3. Format new card with phone
4. Copy and paste from computer my sd card data that I saved just after cwm, but before flashing dt's a2sd
5. Use cwm to partion phone
6. Copy and paste card data once again.
7. Use cwm to install dt's a2sd.

Will this work? In my noobish mind it does, but I need an experts opinion. Thanks.

I dont think what your talking about will work, though to be honest I am not sure I understand what you are saying.
This is what I am seeing, first when you put the new card in use cwm to add your partitions and format. Actually its one step cwm wants a ext partition if you format with it, At that point everything on the card is wiped. Now you have 2 partitions one a linux filesystem that windows can not read, though there are programs you can download that can, I dont know them. when you copy over your windows readable partition you will have all the stuff on your "sd" card but not the ext stuff which would be all your apps, as well as the davlik-cache but that I would never worry about it will rebuild it with no trouble just a few extra seconds of boot time.

Hi there! Dont mean to be rude but I'm having trouble in getting the dt a2sd to function properly. I had been using that link2sd, but when you install a lot of apps using that it can quickly eat away at internal memory so more apps decreased phone performance.

Anyway, I flashed Hroark's ext4 partition and installed that, and then installed a2sd. I'm not quite sure how this app functions in terms of creating a link on the sd-ext.

Titanium backup says I have a partitioned sd-ext of about 4gb using a2sd, but when I open the a2sdgui, and go to sys info, says that I don't have any more space on partition besides like 98 mb or something.

edit: I've managed to get A2SD up and running. It checks out through the terminal emulator after running the 'a2sd check,' it says that I have it properly installed, although its reading an EXT2 partition, instead of ext4. I'm trying to figure out what exactly I'm messing up in the process.

I flash Hroak's EXT4 mod, then reboot, then partition the sd card.
After restarting from that, I move the ext4 zip and dta2sd zip to my phone, reboot and then install them while /data and /system are mounted. I install the ext4 zip first, then rebooted, then I installed a2sd. My system booted and I have functionality, but upon opening the a2sdGUI I see that it says apps are internal storage, behind the 'working' loading message, then it loads and it says apps are on sd.

When I click for the info screen I see the following:

internal: 119 (157mb)
sd-ext: 86 (92mb)
/cache: 86 (92mb)
ram free (total): 142 (288mb)

This is the result of my confusion. I'm not understanding why there is a discrepancy here... I think it must be because I am doing something wrong.

If anyone could provide a nudge in the right direction, I would massively appreciate it very much for their graciousness.

I am in a state of confusion. Lol

Thanks, Rob :)

Thanks for the reply new optimus. I definately want to change over to a class 6 or 10 card, and wanted to find the simplest way to do this. If I just use cwm to partition the new card straight out of the box, and then copy and paste my sd files to the new card and then flash with dt"s a2sd would this work? What would or could I lose by doing this? Would I just lose some apps? Is cwm dependent on my current sd card? Thanks for any and all information.

Edit: Adata 16GB class 10 micro sd @ newegg for $30. Any other suggestions? Thanks.

The way you just described is the best way, at most you will loose the apps that are in the ext partition now. however you could even save them if you have a way of reading and writing to the linux filesystem that the ext partition is formated to.

Just ordered a new class 10 card and was wondering if anyone has done this yet and what kind of results you might have had. From the posts here it seems pretty straight forward and shouldn't be to big of deal. I was just curious if anyone that has done this has any tips or words of wisdom.

I thought I would report back on my experience with a new sd card (16gb class 10). I had hroarkernal and darktreamors apps2sd already installed so I was trying to just swap out to the new card.

Here is a list of the things I did and then ended up having to do becuase I got caught up and didn't know what else to do.

  • Made a backup of all apps and everything with Titanium
  • made a backup with CWM
  • formatted new SD card with CWM. One thing to note here is I did format the SD card ext partition bigger then the original one I had. So I don't know if that is what screwed me.
  • Copied over all files that were on my SD card(fat partition not the ext4 partition) to the new card. Tried to boot up the phone but it would just get stuck bootlooping.
  • I then tried to install darktreamors apps2sd again here to see if that would help but it would still bootloop
  • Went back and tried to install the hroarkernal again but it would still bootloop
After that I didn't know what to do so I ended up Odining back to stock and rerooting the phone and putting in the new kernals and shabby mod.

It really wasn't that bad redoing everything especially if you make a back up.
