Steve Jobs ? what next for Apple? | Technology | guardian.co.uk

So, what think you? Is this it for him? Impact on Apple? No matter how you feel about Apple, you have to admit that he's been one of if not the most influential personality in tech for the last decade or so.

Personally, I have a suspicion that he won't return this time. I've never been an Apple lover, but I don't see this being a good thing for the tech world at large and certainly not for he, his family and friends.

Being that it isn't a full leave and he will be involved no its not the end. Also God forbid when the day comes that the man dies. The company has many many competent people in position to continuously run the company as he would

I'm trying to think of another company that is so closely linked to the fate of it's CEO. Apple sucked balls and very nearly went under when he first left the company. His return led to the companies rise back to the top. If he's gone for good, that does not bode well for the company IMO.

I knew something was wrong with Stevie. CDMA iPhone? He HAS to be sick!

Kidding..

I think without Jobs at the helm Apple is in for a world of hurt.

Does anyone know what exactly the illness is?

As much as people love to bag on him... no one can deny the huge contributions that he's made for the industry.

Apple's stock is down nearly 10% already on this news. Just shows how much of a cult of personality the company is.

Wow the guys not even a senor citizen yet and his health is failing =/

Maybe he should have eaten some oranges too?

He was diagnose with pancreatic cancer a while ago and had a liver transplant a few years ago. Its been said he is losing weight.

I don't agree with all of the design decisions around the Apple products. However, what Jobs did with Apple and its products has revolutionised the industry.

Yeah this same thing happened a few years back that he was rumored to retire due to his health. Apple stock fell almost $100 a share. Next day he said it was a lie and he was going no where and the stock rebounded the next day.

why I don't like the stock market.

steve jobs is to apple as lee Iaccoca was to Dodge. Both men saves a company from utter bankruptcy.

I've wondered if he decided to get out while the iPod,Phone,Pad lines were at their high, and before they started their decline.

Then he could come back and "rescue" the company again later.

I don't see those lines declining. The iPod has ruled the PMP market for a long time and isn't going anywhere at all. They've basically locked up that market the way Microsoft has locked up the OS market on computers. There are other competitors, but none of them are serious challenges. The iPhone line may decline, but I think in the end, it'll be iOS and Android in that market space. The iPad line is bound to decline just because currently it has virtually no competitors at all in the tablet market space. This year we'll see Android tablets that are blessed by Google that'll get pushed, the BB Playbook, a WebOS tablet, and a few Windows tablets. The iPad market share will decline for sure just because it'll actually have competitors. It remains to be seen how much it'll decline though.

Well most likely for cancer flared up. Not a good sign for his future. If anything he will be dying not retiring.

Isn't Pancreatic cancer one of the worst to have?
i dont think so if its as highly monitored as Steve would be
Our finance minister has had it diagnosed back in earl 2010 and is still doing his job (and well as much as it pains me to say it)
hell most people want him as the next finance minister! (even tho its impossible)

With Android devices moving into the iPod space, there is going to be much more competition in the iPod line.

The biggest thing that iOS has for it, is Apple devices are seen as a status symbol. If they become a negative status symbol. If it becomes clear that iOS devices are second tier devices, or second rate devices, they will go away.

There is no room for niche devices in the mobile market like there is in the desktop/laptop market.

I assume by PA button you are referring to the concierge button. I mean, a cell phone that comes with a 24/7 concierge service that will book spa, hotel, and restaurant reservations... that's luxury.
