This issues started for all my 3 droid bionic (3 separate accounts) about 4 months ago. Called verizon with no help or solution.

Looked around the forums and a bunch of people have the same exact issue with 4G turning from blue to white and then unable to connect to 4G unless rebooting phone, airplane mode, manually going to 3g and then back to 4G.

Got a new sim card, no help
Master reset phone, no help

Spend hours on phone with verizon, no help.

Who else is having this issue.

I wish ATT or Spring can get a hold of this story and use it against verizon just for verizon to do something about it.

I have read that 4G and 3G use different authentications and because of this 4G gets stuck in a loop and turns white while dropping all data.

Please let me know if anybody else is having this issue as well.

Plenty of us have had it. I've had it for some time now. I flashed ICS (.232, I guess it is) which has made the problem much better. I still get data drops, but they aren't nearly as frequent.

Sprint can't use it because they have the same issue. A friend who has the Galaxy SII on Sprint got drops at the exact same time I did one day.

I still do not believe this is a Bionic issue, nor am I thinking anymore it's a Verizon only issue. Sometimes I wonder if it's a Google issue since we all have to connect up to Google's services, which is what the blue means, or if it's a 4G issue.

Yours sounds like a tower issue with you on Verizon and your friend on Sprint using the same tower.

... Thom
That might be explainable if we had been in one spot that day. However, we were traveling, and we noticed it a few times, even sitting still in our home city as well as in a restaurant in another town.

I mean it could still be tower issues. I do know cell phone companies routinely use the same tower sometimes rather than having their own seperate towers everywhere. Perhaps sometimes there is interference between each companies 4G signals.

It used to be Verizon was different than most of the other big cell companies because they used CDMA where as the others used GSM. Perhaps with so many using LTE for 4G it's doing something.

I don't know what the cause is, but I really don't think this is a Bionic issue. Yes, I am sure there are a few bad Bionics out there like there are bad units of any product.

new/odd behavior for blue/white 4G today: I tried using google to find a phone number, while in a store. every time I tried to speak the search, the instant that I hit the microphone icon in search, the 4G icon went white. after three times, I decided to step outside the store to see if that would improve the signal--it didn't. I rebooted the phone and THEN I was able to speak my search request without getting knocked off the data network. in all, I had five consecutive failures to do a spoken search--I'd lose the blue 4G each and every time I hit the mic icon. anyone else had this happen?

EDIT: the same thing happened again to me when using voice search on August 19th. I had to pull the battery to get it to work.

Yes, but it's been a while. If I remember correctly happened just after 905 went to soak test (cause a few were talking about it here) but before it went OTA and I was still on 902.

I have noticed a few times since that during the worse times for data drops opening apps will apparently trigger the same response.

This is why I am really starting to think there is some "connection" (pardon the expression) to these data drops and the Google services. When they were doing the update to the Play market a few weeks back, the blue to white also seemed to happen quite often.

I haven't had this issue since my .905 days. .323 and all ICS builds are rock solid in the data connection department.

Have you tried this?

I called Verizon today because my bionic has been dropping data constantly since .905. They said it's a known issue and referred me to a level 2 tech. She instantly offered to switch me to a razr free of charge. I am not sure if it's the regular razr or the maxx but, I am kinda tempted. Given that ICS supposedly fixes the problem and could begin rolling out in a few weeks any advice?

My personal opinion is that I certainly wouldn't take the regular Razr as the battery is not user swappable.

Also, if this is a hardware issue with the Bionic (which I personally doubt), than I don't see how the Razr or Razr Maxx could fix it because it's my understanding that the hardware, other than the screen, is identical. So if the Razr were to fix it, than it would have to be due to ICS.

My suggestion is this, if you feel comfortable putting on the 232 (NOT 235 or 238 as you can't go back to 905), install it and see if it helps. If not, you may need to take them up on the offer. If it does, stick with it, and when ICS is released OTA, flashback to 905 and take the OTA.

Ever since yesterday afternoon, I have been having the blue to white and back again. Last night I even went down to 3G for a long time which is unusual because Huntsville is solidly 4G.

But since I responded to your post earlier, I was out and noticed, every time I put my phone in the car dock, immediately went to white and back to blue. Same thing when I would open up any apps. And I know it was a true data drop cause it only checks my email automatically when a data drop happens.

Hmm, I haven't experienced data drops since ICS4BIONIC (which was fixed with updates) and back on ye olde .866.

A SIM card pull fixed my issues permanently. Just remember to never touch the metal leads.

there are two ways to refresh the network, which both did nothing to help me or with my other 2 droid bionics.

sim card pull is one way and the other way which is a better way which is to call verizon and demand to refresh/reconnect internally with their billing system/network on verizons side.

I wish it did help. Love my droid, used to love the system.

One more thing, when 4G works properly, I am getting at my condo average 20 megs down and 20 megs up, and on off peak time 31 megs down and 25 begs up, which is blazing fast.

I've also found that toggling Airplane Mode on and off again can fix the problem in many cases as well (though I haven't needed to do that for a while).

I struggled with Verizon for a month or more and finally got them to send me a replacement Bionic. That generally solved my data drop issues ... until last night. I now have frequent data drops again, just like y'all. I assume that we will all be getting ICS within the next 2-4 weeks by OTA and that it will solve the connection problems once and for all. If not, I will resume my battles with Verizon in October and demand a Razr MAXX.

THANK YOU! That's what I'VE been tell everyone.

I am going to miss my bionic, it had been a great phone. Until this last week. I have been having the same issues and Verizon after trouble shooting offered me the Razr. I hope I haven't made a mistake. I am not good with understanding electronics so this seems liked the best route for me. other than the battery life what other problems should I expect? Verizon never mentioned an upgrade coming up for the bionic, just for the razr that apparently happened not to long ago. they told me they were offering the razr because I was such a long term good customer and it didn't mean that the bionic problem I was having had been ongoing or something to that effect.

Actually you should expect more problems with the Razr. They had the same data drop issues before their ICS updates, but I'm not sure if they have the same issues after. However, the Razr's are having trouble with their ICS which seems to be the cause of the delay in ICS getting rolled out to the Bionics because they seem to be trying to fix whatever the bug was that the Razr's saw.

Droid RAZR & Droid RAZR MAXX Ice Cream Sandwich Bug Fix Update Rolling Out in August?

Wait for Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Update Continues

The Bionic is definately getting ICS. Many people who use 232 report that it's fixed the data drop issue practically entirely. The fact is, this data drop issue was never exclusive to the Bionic or even Motorola phones for that matter. And the Razr is essentially a Bionic with a AMOLED screen and different case and a non user removable battery. From my understanding, even the CPU is identical, it is merely clocked down from the 1.2GHz that the Razr runs on, though many on the ICS leaks for the Bionic are now running at 1.2GHz.

I can have perfect blue 4g until I try to use my Facebook app or go on tapatalk. Then it drops to white. I've even tested it just sitting at home. Its like a magic trick. Can be on the phone with perfect data and then ill go to one of those apps and boom. Instant 4g off switch. Very frustrating.

Mine does it everyday around lunch. It is actually doing it right now even though I did a SIM pull this morning. It is starting to get old and I agree that I should not have to pull my battery and all those cheap tricks just to be able to use 4g. Especially since I have a otterbox defender case on this phone. It becomes too much of a hassle. My phone is stock .905 and I know the phone is not a lemon but "a mysterious issue" making it seem like one.

I had that issue with FB too, so I uninstalled and just use FB on a browser. The only difference being my 4G is never "perfect". it's always subject to going blue/white/blue/white, over and over by the moment. Sometimes it stays solidly blue for a very long time. that's why I have a love/hate relationship with the phone. I really have no other major complaints with it.

Are you sure that when it goes white, you don't have internet? Technically, the white means that the phone isn't connecting to the Google servers. When data completely drops, you should be losing the whole 4G logo altogether, and just have plain white bars or a roaming symbol.

I've been noticing this, too, for the past month or two at least -- generally dropping from 4G to 0G. Sometimes, toggling airplane mode would work, but not so much anymore. Generally have to do a full restart. VERY annoying.

Holding out for ICS in the hopes that stabilizes things, otherwise, Verizon's going to hear some major whining.

In that case. I loose connection to google servers more times a day than I can count.
