Help Still not root after going through process nexus

I followed a thread on XDA dev's website for rooting my galaxy nexus (4.2.2) toro with ubuntu (will post link if asked). Had a couple little hiccups trying to get the su.zip file to show up in clockworkmod, after reading another forum I did:

adb push su.zip /sdcard/
​

and su.zip showed up in CWM, I was able to install it from CWM just fine, did a reset and everything was all good, or so I thought. I checked in the superuser app, the superSU app and a terminal on the phone and confirmed I still do not have root access despite following the directions step by step that seemed to work for others. Has anyone else run into this issue, am I forgetting to do anything? Is there a step that post leaves out? if you need any additional info let me know

Might need to see the link but the only thing that comes to mind is that the su.zip used was not compatible with 4.2.2. Once you're up and running, you might try to update the SU binary via the app. Do you own an international Gnexus or are you with Verizon or Sprint?

Try installing this Super User app. If I recall, when my GN got the update from ICS to JB I lost ROOT and the normal SU app no longer worked. Installing the SuperSU app solved the problem.
