If i am stock non rooted and take the ota update can i root after? sorry if this is a stupid question but i couldnt find an answer. i wanna root but haven't had time since i got my TB. any help will be appreciated

Dont accept the OTA if you plan on rooting.

You can download the update after, if you still want to.

heres the basic sequence of events:

1)htc deveolpers come up with new software
2)it gets leaked
3)the leaked ruu,or factory rom is made public(as is being discussed a couple threads up). folks who are not rooted can download and apply,if desired. not the best method,IMO as the OTA wont wipe your data. the leak will.
4)our community developers take the leak, and modify it so that root users can flash a rooted version on a rooted phone.
5)our community developers take the OTA,and incoporate that firmware into their custom roms.
6)rooted users must run either the "rooted leak" or a custom rom based on it so that the phone does not constantly pester to update.
7)OTA is pushed to stock phones(and rooters who arent paying attention.)

hope this helps clear it up. it is NOT ok to download via the airwaves to your phone. no rooted versions are ever pushed out over airwaves.

further questions? :)

One..if i may, so this OTA that has been released tonight with a supposed "new radio" which will fix the reboot issue, that has already been available to rooters? bc if so, i would love to find out how to fix my reboot issues, bc I just rooted this morning

It's been out as long as the official OTA has, maybe a little sooner. A well know and respected developer has said in his opinion this new radio is the same as the MR2 and MR2.5.

I personally think this official OTA was nothing more than to install more bloat, kill the Wireless Hot Spot app and update to a new 3G icon.

So would that mean that the OTA that came out tonight will NOT fix the reboot issue?

Are you still having reboot issues? Didn't you just root your phone? I could have sworn I saw a few different root related posts from you in the All Things Root section.

I did root this morning, and since i did, (KNOCK ON WOOD) i havent had a reboot since, but I thought that being rooted didn't fix the reboot issue...so i figured by tonight or tomorrow i would be rebooting as per usual.

I'm probably the wrong person to be talking with this about because I've never experienced the random reboots like some others have. The only time I had issues was running an alpha, pre beta ROM which was expected to have issues

do i have my facts straight? Rooting does NOT solve reboot issue? or am I g2g now that I'm rooted? bc that would honestly make my night bc i thought i would still have reboot issues once being rooted

Every phone is different. I have no idea what is going to happen with your phone. My educated guess would be if you haven't changed your radio and had reboot issue before rooting you'll more than likely still have them. There's no way to tell for sure

My reboot issue got worse after rooting. Still isn't as bad as some have reported but from 1 reboot weekly prior to root to 3 or 4 weekly

i have never experienced random reboots, either. but i ran the factory firmware for as long as it took to release the root exploits... prolly less than a week.

so if you have a software issue causeing reboots, being rooted and running different firmware will prolly fix the prollem.

on the other hand,if you have a hardware malfunction casueing the reboots, then youll have them no mater what rom you run. you may want to exagerate the frequency to verizon and see if theyll send you a new one. enuff people are having different issues right now they dont seem to be very resistant ;) in some cases are even offering to replace the TB with a charge if that what it takes to make the customer happy.

day 2, definitely would have had a reboot by now if i were to get one..so rooting seems to have fixed my reboot issue, I am on my 2nd tbolt as well, but both the original and this one rebooted...now if i change my radio to the MR2 or 2.5, and flash Das Bamf (which is/was my plan) is there a chance i will go back to having reboot issues?
