Root Stock Kernel SBC?

well that is interesting. i have not heard of this. you would think the devs would have realized this when the code for the kernel was released. not sure why the author unrooted his evo though when he could have just flashed the stock kernel. i tried the stock kernel with the new roms that came out and i did not see any evidence of this. battery life was decent but nothing like todays kernels give me now.

I'm hoping (wishfully) HTC's code will act as a catalyst for helping our devs finish SBC on their kernels.

Someone over at the mikmik.com tested this kernel and it did NOT trickle charge so......

I saw this, but thats not going to stop me from trying it out myself. ;)

With conflicting reports the only thing to do is try it out as methodically as possible. Look for a full report this weekend. Maybe earlier if i get bored. Senioritis is kicking in and I'd rather put off most school work :D

Shoulda been an IT major

WEll, since you all started this, I am gonna add my worthless $0.02.

FIRST, Trickle Charging by definition will destroy a Li IOn battery. Yes, that is true, sort of. We are talking about a battery that has a useful life of say 4 to 5 years. So we shorten it to about 3 years by trickle charging it, well, I dont know about anyone else, but the longest I have EVER had a phone was 2 years. So does it really matter????

SECOND, an SBC kernel DOES NOT TRICKLE CHARGE as per the definition of Trickle charging. It is a term that is sort of slang. WHAT is DOES do, is charge at a lower voltage and continues to charge until the battery is FULL!! Full would be defined as 4204mV. If any of you had any brains what so ever to watch what ACTUALLY happens when using a recent SBC kernel, such as Netarchy's you would see that the battery will charge at a good rate for a while, then as it gets closer to the 4200mV like say around 4100mV the rate drops down, and keeps dropping lower and lower and lower until it finally reaches the 4200mV range, and then shuts off to 0mv added. Then every few minutes it hits it with a 1 to 3mV push to keep it at the 4200mV range. Not all SBC kernels act identiacally, but ALL are very similar.

So it NEVER gets OVERCHARGED. It simply gets charged up to a full 100% battery potential. After charging my Seidio 3500 for 6 months using a SBC kernel, my battery has lost about 100mV in capacity. Now after 6 months, my battery is full at around 4100mV. I would guess that would be about 15 minutes of normal browsing FB runtime. I get 36 hours out of a charge, so I am down to 35hours 45 minutes, well woopty FREAKIN doo. At least it is not 18 hours on a STOCK kernel. AND by the way, it is MY CHOICE to risk battery life and for $50 for a Seidio battery, there is no other way to get it fully charged. A STOCK KERNEL will not charge it fully, maybe 75 to 80% of capacity on a good day.

I will keep my SBC kernel and the rest of you nay sayers can go buy an iPhone where there are SOOO Many choices in things you can do to it!!!!

no nay sayers here. lol
i love tiamat sbc kernels. LOVE THEM. i just hope that they get something like that for gingerbread soon. only reason why i really like aosp roms. if only the merge rom could truly bring aosp and sense together so that we can all get the aosp goodness.

and i will say this again, i really have my doubts that htc will ever make their stock kernel trickle charge like an sbc kernel does.
