Stop the annoying ads already...

IOWA

Mr. Logic Pants
I understand you guys have to make your money, but ads that take up the entire browser screen for 30 seconds is kind of pushing it... IMO, especially with no skip button. It's enough to keep me from visiting on the web and just use tapatalk, which you can't advertise on. I don't know if other people feel the same way, but something to think about.

I've never seen anything here as described by the OP.

Well I have, and it's driving me nuts too. If I recall correctly they are for Energizer. I've only seen them later in the night the last couple of days. They gray out the whole screen, and run for 30 secs. Yes, I can reload the page and hope for a less intrusive ad, yes I could switch browsers and customize it so I wouldn't have to see them, but really, these ads are a problem. I have no problem with the need to make money by selling ad space, but these take over the whole screen - for 30 secs - rendering the site unusable, and a far less desirable place to visit.

I've been here at all hours and never seen that or anything like it.

Fwiw, I'm running Firefox 3.6.4 with popup blocker enabled; that's about it for ad removal.

Maybe that ad you're referring to is set to invoke at random times; we'd have to look at that with the time zones of those seeing it listed, I suppose.

I'm running FF with pop-up blocker as well. I'm in USA central. I'll tell you, it's just not worth it to me to browse this site when they are in the ad rotation. I just go somewhere else and check back later. I'll try to grab a screen cap next time I see it.

Sysops here have stated that they are very proactive in removing ads which alienate users here.

For those of you who've seen these, perhaps a PM or two to Rob, Phases, etc.

I've seen em too, infact that's why I looked for a thread on this issue. I'm using chrome for my browser. A 30 second ad isn't going to kill me, but it's more time than I want to take just sitting here staring at a screen. Sure it's only 30 seconds but my time is valuable to me.
I don't want to use ad blockers, because I like to see what others see for my internet marketing research. Frankly it's never been a problem until now. None of the other sites I regularly visit have ads that I find really intrusive like Phandroid now has.
I'm hoping they decide to get rid of it. As an internet business person I never use pop-ups especially without a close button. I'd rather not irritate my visitors.

Holy crap I haven't heard the term sysop since my dial up bbs days... wow the memories

Here is a screenshot for those who haven't seen it.

I run my computer with an ad blocker, because I know that's how websites make money, and I have no problem supporting that.

The only other websites I've seen with ads this intrusive are porn sites. If you want to have an ad that takes up the entire screen, that's fine, but put a "close" or "skip" option on it. If I see the ad one more time I will download ad blocking software.

Yep. That's it. Definitely needs a skip button, at the very least.

That thing is nasty.

I wonder if it's already been jettisoned; I remember one of the Uberguys here jumping all over a reported pop up similar to that one several weeks ago.

It looks like they snuck another one in. When was the last time it was seen here?

But don't worry, folks; the sysops don't like them either.

1:30 am usa central time. Seems like they're sneaking this in only late at night. I gotta tell you this has really got to stop. I'm leaving now because it's not worth dealing with this every 3rd click or so on this site.

Yeah, got the energizer bunny last night for the first time. That is SUPER annoying. I don't mind ads that don't interfere with what I'm doing, but that one possesses the whole screen for 30 seconds.... Not cool. Hell, I even click on some of the ads around here, they look interesting, but that one makes me buy Duracell, for sure.

I've been hit with Xfinity TV's full page add 3 times today. I'm afraid I'm going to have to add these forums to my adblocker. I leave ads on for sites I wish to support, but getting that intrusive is just wrong.

Yeah, they are annoying for sure. All *I* can do is point Rob to them (these threads) and hope he can get them taken care, though.

Screenshots are good though, so keep posting those when new things pop up - that's what he needs to see.

I find them very frustrating too. I'm glad I haven't experienced them on Tapatalk, as yet. If I did, I might have thrown my phone at the wall. True!

Yeah they seem to be 100% random, because there are times where I won't get any, then there are times where ill get that same ad 3x in a row. Rawr!

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.
