Root Stuck again

Sorry this is probably posted somewhere else. But I recently just unlocked bootloader, installed amon ra 2.3 recovery and stayed stock. I started deleting stock apps, after i was through i went back to home screen and my soft keys wouldnt work, so i restarted my phone and now its staying on the 4G boot screen. HELP PLEASE

its an evo 4G 2.3.5, S-ON, 2.18.0001

ok first off you should not just delete apps. you should use titanium backup(found in the market) and freeze them first. once you know your phone is fine then you can delete them. did you make a nandroid backup first? if so you can always do a nandroid backup restore. if not (you should always do a nandroid backup when making changes to your evo. nandroid backups are your friend) then you just need to flash a rom of your choice. you can get most of the roms out from here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/284413-roms-kernels-download-page.html.

try mikg3.0. it is a waaaaay better rom then stock. plus all of the bloatware has been removed.

I got the titanium backup but i did not freeze them, and i did not do a nandroid back up. I tried flashing a rom and all i get is E:Cant find update script
Installation aborted

just remember that nandroid backups are your friend. theyhave saved me sooo many times. always make them as often as you can especially when you try and change things on your phone.

as far as your error it might be a either a bad download or a bad flash. you might want to try and re-download it and start again. make sure that you wipe well and use vr supewipe as well before flashing a rom.

When i add the PC36IMG RA 2.3 "PC36IMG" into my root, and go into fastboot it says my main version is older update fail
 
can you select recovery? if so download the rom if you have amon ra 2.3 installed then there is a usb ms toggle that you can then hook up the phone to the pc and then transfer the rom over to the sd card and then wipe and have amon ra flash the rom.
 
Yes I can get to recovery. And i did just what you said and it worked, thank you so much. What kind of kernal would you recommend?

Ok good. With kernels it will depend. All kernels react differentlyon different phones. But u will give u a starting place. I would try the universal freedom kernel. Always give it a few days before moving on down the list of freedom kernels. The difference with each is the amount of undervolting being done.

Ok, thanks. I appreciate all the help youve given me. Have any links to get rid of the watermark? and is my phone fully rooted? I think im getting the hang of this, before i make any changes to my phone, i should run a nandroid backup, correct? I froze the apps that i did not want and phone seems to be running fine, is it then ok to delete the apps?

you are sort of rooted. in the past we neede to get s-off in order to be fully rooted. but the HTCdev method allows us a backdoor so to speak and gain root even though the phone has s-on. if you want to get the watermark removed then you wil have to follow this guide:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html. you can use either captain's method or tacoroot. but keep in mind it is more advanced in doing those methods. please read and then read some more bfore attempting it. you really do not need to do it really. you have everything now that will allow you to do everything my evo can do. so that is up to you if you really want to do the other methods.

and once you know the phone runs fine then yes you can go ahead and delete it. but i would do a nandroid backup before you do, especially if you have not done one yet. i would do it now.

Ok, I downloaded the less freedom kernal, it downloaded 3 files, do i add all 3 to my card?

do not extract the file. leave it zipped. from now on anything you are going to flash will be zipped unless told otherwise. also you should always read the op for roms and kernels. look for special instructions on how to flash it as well as the changelog. the changelog will tell you what is in the kernel or rom and or what has been updated.

do i add all 3 to my card or just the UNIVERAL one

ok you only need the universal version. the others are for specific roms.

use setcpu(found in the market) and use either the smartass governor or the interactive x governor. they both have a screen off profile so need to make any profiles. also uderclock your phone to 245. your phone might be able to go lower, but my phone gets a little laggy at that setting. this should help battery life.

also i have toggle switch on my homescreen so that i can turn 3g on and off. i only use 3g when i need it. 3g is a battery hog.
 
If you'd like a complete list of kernels to try, either try my signature for an XDA Forums link to a Wikipedia looking page or click here for that page and search for kernels. All of these are kernels that are available for the HTC Evo 4G.

But...there are even more than are provided on that XDA Forums link. By using an app called "Kernel Manager LITE", you can view just about every kernel made specifically for your phone. It even gives details about each kernel and which version they are used for like Sense or AOSP. I assume you know that difference between the two? Be sure to read each of these kernel descriptions carefully and thoroughly because you can damage your phone if you do not use the correct kernel with the correct ROM.

I do not know the difference between the too. The rom i used is MikG3.0

I downloaded the kernal using media fire. Im assuming i did it manually, i mounted my phone as i disk drive and added the kernal to my card, then in recovery i flash zip from sd card

Also, if I ever want to change my rom or kernal, how would i go about doing that? Would i mount my phone as a disk drive, delete the rom or kernal, then add the new, then flash?

you can delete the rom file on the sd card. but you do not delete the rom. and you have to wipe first. this will remove the old rom making room for the new rom.

Sense ROMs are ones like MikG, MikF, EViO, Synergy, and others that are built on Sense. The easiest way to usually be able to tell if it is running Sense is if has that clock widget available as most other non-Sense ROMs do not have this. You can tell by the page of the developer that you are downloading from because they will generally tell you whether it is Sense or not. Sense is what our HTC Evo phones came with and it's easiest to build with these. Generally people like these ROMs because they are more reliable.

AOSP ROMs are ones like CM7 or MIUI that are not built on Sense. They are built from scratch and run a little bit differently. Generally you can spot these ones running something much different than what came with your HTC Evo.

It is very important to know what type of ROM for extras like kernels.
