Root Stuck at white Evo screen

for the record im not sure you are able to access the sd card from hboot toggle. It toggles usb but i dont think it gives access to the sd card. Its probably only useful for adb or ruu or something, just a guess. I never actually tried hboot usb toggle for anything. You CAN toggle usb in recovery and access your sd card however but you dont have a recovery so that a pointless point :).
 
Ok. So now I was able to mount the SD card by using my own evo. I was able to copy the new pc36img.zip file . When I switched the SD card back into my husbands phone and went into hboot, I got no prompts at all.

must be named wrong...

PC36IMG if you have a .zip on the end remove it, if you dont have one add it, and try again, yeah its a pain you'll have to put it back in your evo and then back again, quit breaking stuff :p

Lol Thanks. I renamed it PC36IMG without the .zip and it asked for the update... so glad to have that behind me (at least I hope so). Now I guess it's on to the next step?

Yeah windows hides file extensions, we dont actually think people intentionally name files .zip.zip we say be careful not to do that because windows by default hides the extension of the files. They do it so you dont accidentally make a file unusable because when you renamed you changed the extension...who does that? So when you name it on windows should have been just PC36IMG, the .zip extension was already assumed by windows and you were just giving it a name. You can make windows tell you what your file extensions are if you wish...my computer/tools/folder options/view/uncheck hide extensions for known types

Long story short your extensions are hidden and you actually had a .zip.zip so hboot couldnt find it.

Ok, then that's the reason I was having trouble with rooting in the first place. I had to rename the same file earlier and kept the .zip at the end of it as well. Anyway, I'm at the system recovery screen now and am not sure of what to do next. :/ I just want the phone to turn on lol!
 
i edited the post to tell you how to make windows show the extensions...look up

what happens if you reboot? does it boot loop? Go ahead while you are in recovery and select wipe/wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache then reboot and lemme know how it goes.

We may just end up flashing a rom you may have cleared your internal or something...

Thanks. I selected wipe cache for both and then rebooted and am back to the htc evo screen. It's still not going anywhere from there.
 
how long is it chilling there? will it not move to the boot animation? which if you have not changed anything is the 4G animation with the tiles and what not...god i havent seen that animation in a long time...

It will stay on the evo 4g screen all day if I let it. It doesn't go into the animation at all.
 
sounds to me like you aint gots a rom :). Got wiped somewhere in the melee lol. OK what are you looking for? The stock rom? Sense? AOSP?

You can go to the link in my sig called rom and kernels dl page and look through the roms there.

If you want stock that is sprint lovers, if you want sense (which is what you see on your stock rom) but tweaked, look at all the sense roms. Fresh looks very stock but is highly optimized, mik froyo too. I prefer Kings roms but they look totally unlike stock.

If you want AOSP which are gingerbread 2.3+, not 2.2 froyo then look through AOSP, some dont have great gps and need some tweaking so if you are noobish you may wanna stick to sense at first.

lemme know which ya pick and if ya need help i'll give you instructions to flash it. :)
 
oh btw shut off the phone for a bit so we dont kill it and charge it up it wont charge in recovery/hboot. We will go back to recovery and toggle to place the rom of your choice on the card and then flash it in recovery and boot ya up once ya pick one...
 
Thanks again for all the help. I downloaded Calkulin's format all already. I prefer Mik Froyo but if Sense is better for my noobishness lol, then I can go with that for now.
 
mik froyo is sense :) so you are in luck

Cool, download mikfroyo 4.62 from his website the mikmik you'll have to become a member to download it. (its free, just a pain)

Go to recovery, usb/ms toggle so you have access to your sd card, place mik on your sd card, turn off toggle, I would tell you to make a back up here!!!!!!!!!!! (except you dont have anything to back up...?), select flash zip from sd card, select calks format all (i wipe 3 times with that), then select flash zip from sd card and select the mik4.62.zip you just downloaded and flash it, reboot, enjoy. MAKE A BACK UP in recovery after you get booted.

Edit: Well you can grab any mik you want from like 4.3 on but 4.62 is the latest and the fastest, its odexed since 4.6x...not as many themes with 4.6x so if you want a lot of themes flash 4.3-4.5 or something...there are only a few themes for 4.6x out there...

craps, can you tell me what the baseband version is? Needed to make sure you had the newest radios...my bad there, hoping its 2.15.00.11.19, if it is ignore this :) it says in hboot at the top under the s-off part.
 
Hi Guys,

I downloaded Myn's 2.2 this morning and when I rebooted, I got the same freeze on the title screen. When I go into HBOOT and hit RECOVERY, I am on the ClockworkMod Recovery screen. Do I need to update from SD now or something else? I am also a first time rooter. Any help would be great...thanks guys.

Oh, I'm definitely gonna get this done today. I'm just waiting for the activation email from themikmik to go through. Nothing yet. And yes, that is the version I have.

Did you do a full wipe before you flashed it? Boot, system, data, cache? You should.

Do you have a nandroid backup you can restore to just in case?

Are your radios 2.15.00.11.19? They should be

First thing i would try is wipe cache from recovery and wipe dalvik cache (dalvik wipe is under advanced in clockwork) and then reboot and see if that works.
