Root STUCK Failed with Revolutionary

Tried to Root phone a few months back with Unrevoked and messed it right up (until android forums saved me) as my contract is ending i decided to take plunge again and try with revolutionary

I have Orange UK HTC Desire on 2.2 revolutionary worked ok but then have the errors message and I have no idea what to try next :)

Do you force apps to sd? What happened with unrevoked? Theres really not much information in this thread.
 
With Unrevokd i get Validation: CID id missing

didnt do anything with the apps, i'm not worried about backing up what's in there just want to get it to finally root.

took out the sim card as well but using either program i get some type of error. I added the screen shot from revolutionary in my first post that is my error message.
 
I think its because the Revolutionary tool supports the Desire CMDA, which i believe is USA only.
Do you have a simcard?

thats incorrect
revolutionary is for all devices with hboot 0.93 and higher
this user is using stock 2.2 rom with 0.93 hboot.
this is having a problem due to a corrupt misc partition

hmmm you say revolutionary worked but by that screenshot it tells me it didnt.
if you boot to hboot (voldown + power) does it say revolutionary at the top?

if not then it failed fully.
Ive not come across that rom version you are using, which carrier is it and which country?
 
Revolutionary didn't work they both seem as though they work then I get the error message either the error as in the image with Revolutionary or the CID error with Unrevoked.

Just can't seem to get past a certain point with either tool, the phone works fine just I cant seem to root it anyway.

carrier is Orange UK.
 
its a misc error
you have two options. temp root and go through the usb brick fix guide in the tips and tricks section

downgrade using teppics downgrader to a 2.1 rom and root via unrevoked 3.21 then flash a custom up-to-date-rom

do you know what pvt version you are on (check hboot)

which method is easiest? I just want the simplest way because I already USB Bricked my phone before and had to sort it out and that all started trying to use unrevoked when i didnt a factory reset.

it works fine now just unable to root with either

probably use teppics downgrader to get to 2.1 then root using unrevoked 3.21 (it has to be 3.21)
 
downgraded to HBoot 0.83.001 tried unrevoked 3.21 and still get the same error

Validation error Backup CID is missing :s

the firmware version says 2.1update

just cant get unrevoked to work it got further along than before it said success in the message then after second reboot it gae the CID error message :(
 
its actually hboot 0.80 now.

there seems to be some problem writing to the misc partion Why & how i do not know. A few times it failed to load and went to screen with red triangle and whatever i tried to do i had same message

E drive not enough space, or failed to write

thought i was getting somewhere but back to square -1 except now i'm on 2.1 lol
 
USB fix? I can still connect with the USB and go into debugging mode. What will exiles USB fix sort out?

Thanks for all the help, i'm determined to beat this phone!

Ps.

I must have done something because it refused to accept my Orange UK sim card as well when i put it back in! A lot going on (and wrong)

can you explain how you did this?
afaik teppics rom downgrade util doesnt downgrade the hboot to 80 i could be wrong.


the usb brick fix restores the misc partition which gets corrupted. in most cases this causes usb bricks but in some its just corrupted. doing the usb brick fix repairs this.

if you want to get off 2.1 you have a gold card (from doing teppics downgrader) so try running the stock 2.2 WWE RUU to bring it back to froyo and then do the usb brick fix
if you still have no signal on the phone then you should probably run the unlock utility from xda to unlock the sim
 
Teppics tool will downgrade to whatever hboot is packaged in your RUU if you choose to supply your own. Not sure which version it chooses if you don't
