Help stuck in boot cycle? [Resolved via restart]

Sorry if this has been posted already didn't see anything in search besides for rooted phones. My phone locked up last night while surfing the web and is now stuck in some weird restart cycle. Turn the phone on and it shows HTC and Sprint splash screen and animation then starts over and over. Should I try a factory reset and will that erase any apps or their data? Thanks in advance!

Yes a FR will delete all your apps and their data, have you tried taking the battery out for 30 seconds and then try it again and report back

If that is the case incase you don't know how to FR, because your stuck in bootloop

With the phone completely off after a battery pull, hold down the volume down button and the power button at the same time. This will boot you in what's called Hboot and you should see the option for a factory reset. Use the volume up and down to navigate and power button to make your selection.

Try this first before doing a FR, it is worth a shot, see below

1) First, stop the looping by pulling the battery, and then reinserting it, WITHOUT powering it back on.
2) Make sure the phone has enough charge to run without being plugged in and then UNPLUG the phone. I've done this after charging for maybe 20 minutes.
3) Boot into the hboot menu (hold VOLUME DOWN then momentarily press POWER)
4) Use the volume buttons to highlight RECOVERY and hit the power button.

The phone vibrates, displays the white screen with HTC Evo, then displays a black screen with a large green sync icon over a hard disk.

After about a minute, the icon switches to a red error symbol (triangle with exclamation point) over a cellphone.

5) At this point, pull the battery, reinsert it, and power it on normally (WITHOUT holding the volume button). The phone boots normally, and all the apps and data are there, just as they were before the loop started.

Yea I had the battery out for 10 mins and still nothing. Guess I'll try a reset

Have to setup my phone again and lost some data which is a pain but at least my phone works again. Thanks

EDIT: I tried the recovery thing but still didn't work had to reset

I guess you did it to fast, before I edited my post, as I had a possible fix for you, anyways too late now, but you have the info if it happens again

I have an HTC EVO 4G 3D Virgin Mobile phone that became stuck in a boot loop yesterday. Nothing out of the ordinary happened (dropped/wet/etc.).

I have pulled the battery numerous times with no success. I have a second phone that I charged the battery fully on and tested the battery with "Good" results.

I also tried to do a factory reset several times with no success as well. As soon as I hit the power button to accept the factory reset it goes right back into the loop. If I hit the power button and try fastboot it will take me to the options there so I know the power button works, just messes up when I hit factory reset.

At the very top of the boot screen it does say ***LOCKED*** in pink if that means anything.

I have done everything on this page but when I hit the RECOVERY button I go right back into the loop with the HTC white screen :(

Have you taken any of the OTA updates since you've bought the phone? Unfortunately there is only 1 RUU for the VM version of the phone and we won't really be able to run it if the OTA updates have been taken.

Can you tell me the information from the bootloader screen? Up at the top where it said LOCKED there should be some other numbers and stuff. Not in the fastboot menu but the first bootloader screen.

Also, if you are willing, you may be able to unlock the bootloader through HTCdev which factory resets the phone upon doing so. Information on that here: HTCdev - Unlock Bootloader

This is the first step in the rooting process. Unlocking the bootloader itself will not root the phone and is not dangerous. I'm not 100% sure if it will work when the phone is in a non booting state but there's a good chance it can still be done.

Here is a screenshot of my phone. I am pretty sure I have run all of the phone system and software updates.

I figured it was a long shot that you hadn't taken the OTAs but just had to make sure just in case we had the ruu as an option.

I've had a few ideas floating around in my head but unfortunately without being able to boot up first they are out the window :(

Right now the only thing I can think of that might work is the bootloader unlock mentioned above.

I will ask scotty to come take a look here in case he has any other suggestions I'm overlooking.

EDIT :

Just an update. Scotty didn't have anything else to add to this. If you decide to try the bootloader unlock and need any help let us know and we can help get you through it :)

I have an unrooted HTC Evo 3D from Virgin Mobile. It has been having freezing issues and about a week ago failed to charge after the battery ran out. I have since replace the battery and then it has been in a boot loop since then. I can get into the Boot Menu, but neither using the recovery option or the Factory reset seems to make a difference.

Simlock yields the following result:

Fat32 init OK
Open MCCMNC file fail
Open CID file fail

I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Today my phone froze up while the camera app was loading, and then entered a boot loop: HTC logo on white screen shows, vibrates, then goes black and repeats (may stay black and stop repeating after awhile). I'm able to get to the HBOOT menu but selecting the factory reset option shows the HTC logo and then goes black, stays black, and does nothing. The recovery mode option does the same thing.

As the topic says, my phone isn't rooted/modded. I've searched for solutions on this subforum and elsewhere and haven't come up with anything useful. I'd like to fix this myself if I can, but if I can't within the next day or two then I'll have to take it to the store to see if they can fix it.

(Side note that I've been pretty unhappy with this phone for the past few months and this little issue may mean its destruction (smashing it to pieces will be very therapeutic))

EDIT:
Thanks for moving this, I'll try the stuff in this thread tonight/tomorrow and post results afterwards.
