Help Stuck in infinite Boot loop and trying to save data..

@anyone who already responded--would/could any adb commands work in this situation?
I'm leaning towards "no" due to the fact he cannot access "usb debugging" or cannot enter fastboot (no custom recovery)?? Edit: what am I thinking....fast boot in bootloader screen?
Just curious is all.

Edit again: what if he goes into bootloader screen, fastboot, plug in phone, then issue any/if any, adb commands?!?!

adb is only useable in the booted OS. in fastboot, one must use fastboot commands. there are unfortunately none that i can think of that one could use to dump or pull partitions :(

with a custom recovery we could make a nandroid, from wich .apk and .apk data could be extracted. but as ocn said, unlocking will wipe your data. if you knew exactly when to pull the battery, you could maybe pull it before the factory reset is performed when the phone is trying to boot. but i have no idea how fast the phone unlocks the hboot, and what ramifications there may be in pulling it during the actual unlocking

i guess the voicemails are no longer simply stored where you can listen to them the old fasioned way,by dialing the phone number, hitting #,then entering your access code? if so,this can be done from any phone, and should still be in place for her to access from a new phone to the voicemail app.

sorry i cant be of more help, ill keep pndering it and see if anything comes to mind :)

1000th reason I started using Google Voice 3 years ago, voicemails and test messages can be be accessed forever until I delete them. Why people continue to use Sprint Visual Voicemail, I have no idea, stock or rooted GV is the way to go

Yeah, the messages are old and no longer available old style. Tried that method first. Even called Sprint about them as well. Everyone at Sprint wants to perform the factory reset which I know would wipe the messages. They of course tell me there is a slight chance the messages would still be there but I don't know how that is possible.

Thanks for all the input and brainstorming going on. I am used to working on PC's but this is my first time having issues with a cell phone like this. It is frustrating, I guess somewhere in my mind I assumed that accessing a cell phone's internal drive would be easier.

I went ahead and wiped the phone and did a factory reset and it is working again. Thanks for all the help in trying to solve the issue. In the future at least we know to take better precautions with things we want to save.

Sorry we couldnt help you figure a way to salvage your wifes memories. :(

in the future, even if you dont root your phone, keeping usb debugging set may have made a difference also. the phone may have been booting far enuff that adb could hav been used to dump /data partition, wich we could have restored after the factory reset(if you were willing to root it)

i may have to experiment with this unlock/battery pull thing, for situations like these in the future :)

Hey Scotty, thanks for your knowledge here...much appreciated....
Also, if you want, check out this thread. Says something about unlocking without it wiping data like the htcdev method does.
Just for your info if you desire...or you may have seen it already.:p

Thanks for the link! I had not seen it. Sounds like it may work on a variety of mtd devices. I don't think it would have helped here,as taco root needs the phone to be bootable to work.

I may have to experiment with that, too :)

I had a friend who had a problem where the HTC Hero was writing stuff to the internal storage that he couldn't delete. Eventually it filled up his phone so there wasn't enough temp memory for the phone to boot. He had to do a factory reset too. I am wondering if that might have been the problem as my wife mentioned a few times that her phone kept saying it was getting low on internal memory even though she deleted files and hadn't added anything. Anyway, at least she has a working phone now and I've learned some about working with cell phones.

I have the exact same problem with exact same phone and and need to save my voicemails and contacts. I was trolling the internet for a solution. I have not tried anythibng for fear of messing it up even more. If anybody comes up with a solution, please post. And thanks to all that have already posted their generous and thoughtful suggestions. My voicemails are hugely important to me. I delete most of them over time, except the ones from my wife. Thanks again.

I did try taking the battery off, and waiting an hour or so. Changing batteries, and makingsure batteries were fully charged.

By the way, my phone is also stock, not rooted.

unfortunately like i said in the second post there is not much you can do without wiping data. if you have backed up your voicemail to the sd card then we can do something. but a lass all the solutions that we can do, will need to wipe and or have a rooted phone.

there's not much you can do to save the data on the stock recovery though you CAN use Odin to flash a CWM and wipe everything accept Data. and it should be fine unles DATA is what is causing it (though unlikely) which Evo do you have i can help look for the files.

Can you explain how to "wipe everything except Data?" My HTC Droid Incredible will not boot and I have Data I'd like to keep (my bad for not keeping it on the SD Card).

You have to be rooted with a custom recovery in order to do that. I'm not familiar with the droid incredible. You might want to post in the droid incredible forum where folks who have the same phone can help you better. as this is the evo 4g forum. I'd post a link but I'm on my phone at the moment.

Welcome wj264!
When you said Hboot recovery didn't help, can you clarify what you meant?
Do you mean you accessed recovery thru the bootloader screen?

did you do anything to the phone prior to the bootloop? you are s-on, are you unlocked? do you have a custom recovery?

edit: damn!!!! i smell tires, do you guys to?
