Success!! WiFi Tethering!!!

No, I don't. I did see a pop up message that says "...started with errors. See log" and then the battery temp and yellow full signal strengthen WIFI symbol. But when I click on "Show Log" the popup says "Unable to show log. File does not exist."

Also, when I tap to stop tethering, it just hangs on "Stop Tethering Please wait while stopping..."

I'm using Windows 7 and I believe I don't have a drop down under "connect to network" to show all.

I've check on the ipad and another laptop and neither sees the SSID. :confused:
 
I found the problem. After reading Howard Forum as it turns out I'm not suppose to update the Superuser before installing WiFi Tether.

I re-ran the Superuser script. Install WiFi Tether, reboot phone, change settings to Indulge started WiFi Tether and boom! It is working. :D This is my first post via WiFi Tether.

Hello Everyone you first off before I ask for help I wanna say that you people rocked this thread!


What I need help with is the fact that I followed every step down to the t but when I try to connect to the indulge hot spot.


I see it as a hot spot to connect to it, that caution sign is right on top the the signal strength :( I connect and it doesn't ask for a password but I cant use it.

please help ;(

Are you using access control?
If you go in the Android Wifi Tether settings, you will see the Access Control Options. If you enabled it, make sure you are whitelisting your computer/MID so it can use your 4g signal!
Also, make sure you select as device profile Samsung Galaxy Indulge (Or Evo, if you have the old version)

I live in LA and for some reason when i ran a speed test while tethering, speed test.net chose florida as the nearest place to me..... why is that?

You need to turn on gps location services other wise the app won't know where you are. When I use it without gps it thinks I'm in texas or new york but I'm in cali. You can also manually change the server it tests from.
 
i do have it on. it did it again.

also i kept getting this message that says, "your phone is in an unknown state, try to reboot!" that would come up on the wifi tether screen. anyone know anything about that?
 
wifi tether experimental still way too buggy. i've tried a few tethering apps and widgets and the best so far is open garden. so smooth, with the 2 layer security we dont really need wpa encription. i mean wep + access control thats it. even if someone cracks the wep password theyll need to be reviewed by the user. open garden is probably from the same source as wifi tether so eventually both will get there.:D
 
Just want to say thanks I used the files here and I can now tether my I pad and lap top to my phone. But my indulge goes from 4 g to 1 x offen how can I keep it from doing this because when it's on 1 x the connection on either my I pad or lap top is slow.

hey guys! new here... just got my indulge 2 days ago and I've been doing some research... but can't do anything right... i have a windows 7 laptop and yes, when i connect my phone it gets it and runs mass storage... i have activated the debug and mock location but no luck... the run.bat file still couldn't find it... help? also... whats the latest tethering version... one with less heat?
 
You need to install the drivers before you can complete the rooting. Check samsung's downlaod center for indulge and you'll find it. Actually there is even a thread here that has it: samsung usb drivers. Shoudl still be on the first page. Just follow the link in that thread!

And for tethering, the heat is not from the app, but from the 4g radio. Nothing you can do but slide out the keyboard and remove the back cover to allow a greater surface area to dissipate the extra heat.
Or set it on an ice pack! Lol!
 
My phone is rooted and wifi tether works. But after a while maybe like a hour or so my phone will just shut off and I'll have to turn back on.
Is anyone else having this problem? If so does anyone know a way to fix this.

I know my phone shuts down when it gets too hot from running games
heavy in graphics..that being said when you tether the phone gets very hot !

This overheating of the phone cannot be good for the phone if you ask me.

My phone's not even hot when it shuts off. I took the back phone cover off and just have my case on it. It let's it breath more and the speakers louder. It's helps I deff recommend doin this.

You could also try one of those little heat pads and silicone gel like is found in many electronics. Come to think of it they probably forgot to put them in this phone since it gets so damn hot.
