Help Summary of problems for Triumph

I posted yesterday that my MT was starting to do random reboots. Turned out it was the IMO IM application. Removed it, no more random reboots since this morning (crossing fingers)

I don't know if it is just my phone, but the sound quality is awful! I am coming from a Sprint HTC Hero and its just plain bad. I also can't use the speaker phone as the other person is getting a MASSIVE amount of feedback from the call (I suspect microphone and speaker placement is the issue). Speaker works fine otherwise. Microphone is bad as well, all the people I have talked to said I am muffled, they can't hear me clearly however I can hear them good.

Anybody else have these problems? I hope its just my unit.

Thanks
I took my first one back because of a microphone problem. This new one worked when i got it, now the mic on it has stopped working. Oh well, I'll just return it. Hate to keep setting up my stuff though... Overall I'm happy, I got in with the $25 a month plan.

When I'm at home and I anticipate a longer conversation, I've quit using the phone itself and revert to a bluetooth headset. It might be more personal preference for me than the phone itself, but I've found my brick-shaped smartphones to be very awkward to use as a ... phone, ironically.

I noticed something extremely strange last night. I usually plug my phone in to charge and then leave it alone, but I decided to use it a bit while it was charging.

My back button wouldn't work while I had it plugged in to charge. As soon as I removed the cord, everything worked fine, but while it was plugged in, the button rarely functioned at all.

Anyone have a similar issue?

Out of curiosity, I was wondering if ANYBODY has been experiencing extreme PIXELATION while watching videos online over the phone. Because I am 3 for 3 with this problem. I need to know how widespread the problem is so I know if I should take this one back or keep it. I will probably take it back and give up on the triumph.

Please post direct links to the 3 vids that you're having problems with so that we can test the exact same scenarios on our phones.

Just a suggestion. Provide a specific link to a few examples, and also what program you are using so others can try it.

My sense is you're probably using the wrong program, or viewer or player or whatever.

I for example have not come across video content that was pixelated, be it Netflix, Youtube, Xfinity, etc.

I'd be happy to try to duplicate your issue, but I like others would benefit from specifics.

[Funny - I was typing a similar response as KrytoNyte at the same time.]

I had similar problems with screen response on the Nook Color tablet. I believe the solution was to get B&N to send out a new cable. I'd recommend trying a couple different cables. I do not have this problem with the stock cable (original screen protector has been removed).

Ima take phone back today. Youtube and the vevo music app are where the problems are coming from. I happens over wifi and 3g. The pixelation occurs everytime I watch a video on youtube. It does not happen at specific times in the video clips, it just pops up on the screen for a moment than it's gone. When I say pixelation, I mean it is really bad. have of the screen may turn green or pink and then go back to normal. i would post a video of the problem but it pretty much happens on every clip. If any of you were having the problem I am you would know what I'm talking about. I guess I got three lemons in a role. Back to the optimus v for me.

To KryptoNyte, when I said 3 for 3, I meant I have had this problem on three different triumphs. I have had an overall terrible experience with this phone. I really did want to like it too.

In honor of KrytoNyte and my simultaneous mind-meld, I am currently watching the video of same from YouTube. You know what? I see a tiny bit of pixelation that I typically do not see when viewing downloaded MP4s, NetFlix, or stuff from Xfinity (TV shows).

And in this particular video (it's VEVO HQ too), there is some green artifacts, but it could be intentional.

Hope that doesn't add confusion... It most likely is the result of YouTube compression and also the bit-rate over 3G, and also mapping of the image Youtube is generating and the phone's screen aspect ratio.

Things that make you go hmmmm.

Only had mine since last Friday, only 'issue' is the touch screen doesn't always react right away. This is my first Droid so overall I am happy.

Bought at BB and got the $50 gift card, will use it next month to buy a topup card.

You can't beat $35 a month.

noticed this has happened a couple times, and i don't know how to replicate it. it just happens randomly. it's not the screen protector because it's only the back button that stops working. i just kept pressing the back button and it started working again

I have had these problems, and never had these issues on my OV.

Random shut down and restart. Screen flickering. Touch screen unresponsiveness. GPS is my big issue, I need this for my job and on this phone it is not cutting the muster, GPS has worked properly once out of about 20 times and has actually locked on to my location twice, and one of those two times it took me in the wrong direction twice almost getting me lost in a area where I knew nothing about where I was. I depend on my GPS.

Last is loss of internet. While this is or was an issue with the OV when I got it, the problem had cleared up to almost 100% connection time on the OV. The Triumph is less than 50%.
Taking the phone back today and getting something different or going to another carrier.

anyone encounter this problem, when calling the voicemail the screen goes black 'sleep mode' for like 3-4 secs and then comes back on and this repeats, i also noticed some screen flickering when calling voicemail but didnt see it when i just called

Every Android phone I have ever had does this. I just figured it was a timed screen guard to help reduce the possibility of accidental disconnect or something

Not to be petty, but . . .

I think what you wanted here was "cutting the mustard"

or perhaps

"pass muster."
Petty away my friend:) you are correct. I used the wrong word.
I would rather be corrected and be saying it correctly from then on, than incorrectly and people think me tuppid.

my main problems are the camera, everything else works great first phone the auto focus did not work now the 2nd one was ok at first but now i see a greenish tint on the camera going back later today the wife says its not a big thing, but for 300 dollars i want my phone to be right .

So after about 3 weeks of ownership, my Truimph started to intermittently not recognize when it was plugged in, either via USB or wall charger. A reboot would fix it, then it would happen again in a day or so

So Sat I took it and exchanged it for a new one. So far, the differences I noticed are

On the new one, the battery life is LIGHT YEARS better. My phone has been on for over 24 hours and still has 55% battery left. This is with the *exact* same apps on the phone as the old one I had. Running Juicedefender, but my old one was as well.

Old one could get a GPS lock in seconds, my new one, practically not at all

Old phone earpeice would occasionally crackle and sound tinny, the new one does not

Both were software version 38. I specifically requested a "newer" one from Radio Shack.

So it looks like there may be some pretty wild disparities between production runs.

returned my 1st MT to RS.
Opened replacement for inspection. without powering it up for tons of troubles:
-the power button was literally inside the case, nearly impossible to use
-one of the speaker grills was missing!?
-the alignment of the top/down of the case halves were misaligned by 1-2cm, creating a sharp feeling edge.
so I immediately just asked to cancel the exchange, they were fine with that.

next day, went to BB and for 30% PM to BBM $209 for MT.

on to 3rd MT.

This one is running great.
-Much brighter screen then 1st or 2nd
-more responsive screen, with or without screen protector
-hasnt overheated yet, kept charging even at 43oC
-a bit louder volume
-locks in GPS 15seconds to 2mins, typically within 1min which is fine.
-better battery life
-reception is just as good as OV, used it is very flaky area were OV was barely able to work and MT performed just as well.

Negative:
-Still downgrades to 1X data when GPS is active, has a hard time. hoping this will be fixed via sw updates / tower configs
-bottom left corned of screen has a bit of light bleeding, but hoping snap on case with cover it up. may put some small piece of electrical tape in there if it get annoying.

bottom line:
Keeping 3rd MT. Its fast, big screen, all the features I want, and fantastic price $209 upfront and $25/month.
If your doesnt work, exchange it until you get a good one.

My SW version is 39, kernel 2.6.32.9

EDIT: After reading that the conflict between GPS and data (3G/1X) is most likely a hardware issue and will not be able to be fixed by a SW update, I decided to roll back to LG Optimus V.
I will wait till their is a better upgrade option. Going to miss the big screen, but thats about it. The OV I picked up at BB feels SO MUCH more solid and functional design, the screen colors and clarity is far better then MT.

The only problem I have is with the quick battery drain. But it's been remedied (somewhat) with Advanced Task Killer from the market. Also, the front facing camera is absolute shit but I don't really care because I won't be using it often, if ever at all.
