Root Support Rooted T-Mobile SGH-T959V

Thanks all. I think luna has me on the right track. I appreciate all of your help. I'll be sure to find you all after i brick this phone.
J/K i hope

There you go ... first order of business ... make a backup! And then copy the clockworkmod folder it creates to a pc or some other media for safe keeping. In the event of a bad rom flash, you can use it to recover to this exact point.

Be patient. during the backup it might seem to hang. Just let it do it's thing and you'll be fine. Sometimes it can take up to five minutes to refresh the screen. Also, when you flash a rom, the first time you reboot it's going to rebuild the apps in the system so it could sit on a screen or two for a while. Now, if it takes longer than 15 minutes something is wrong.

it says could not mount sd-ext skipping ext backup. I have my sd card partitioned with 2 primary fat32 partitions...it was the only way I could get link2sd to see it....And I desperately needed the system memory extension. So knowing this, I have two questions: 1) Do I have to Backup something manually? Everything else seemed to backup ok. and 2) I cannot see either partition in My Computer on my PC. I can see the larger one in mini partition tool. makes saving files kind of tough...is this because PC wont recognize two Primary Fat32 Partitions?

Thanks all! Especially Luna, who has been so patient with me. Thanks for taking it slow! This forum is awesome, You all are awesome!!!! Thanks El Presidente for enlisting everyone! Wow, what a difference that made!

Now you're throwing me a curve when I'm sure the catcher signaled for a slider ;)

I haven't ever actually played that partition game with the sd card so I am not familiar with the quirks. When you try and mount the partitions, are you simply plugging your phone into the USB port of the PC or are you using a card reader? I would think a card reader would be better in this instance as you could mount one partition at a time.

If you can get the files off, you should be fine.

No worries...I can access the main storage through mini partition tool and can save files on the PC with that.
CORRECTION: I can see files in mini partition tool, but cannot save/copy/move from here. I had to use my card reader....it's very easy this way, just remember to unmount sd before removing it.....apps..system...storage I believe.

Ok, I was able to easily backup with file reader....I must be getting tired. I copied the entire clockworkmod folder....809 mb. What should I do now?

Get some sleep and try not to dream about technology. ;)

Seriously, take your time and pick a rom to flash. Always make sure to double check that you have a rom for your specific version of the device and if you're not sure ask before you flash it.

I've had that message with every Samsung I've owned and have never played around with the partitions. I think it's just telling you that cwm recovery can't backup the external sd on Samsung's. Nothing to worry about your backup will still be good.:)

That was great advice. My brain and my back were a mess... This whole process reminds me of getting my first 486 computer and increasing the ram from 4 megs to 16. Then I replaced the motherboard, upgrades to a Pentium processor, new hard drive, more ram...etc. you get the idea, I am sure. A lot of all nighters and frustration with early Web days.

Ok...I hope you all are still willing to hold my hand. I went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs (thanks Luna!) And I have the basic gist of roms and flashing them. Am I limited to Mods made for my phone, my cwm version, and the kernel I installed to get it (Thanks AntonX)? . Also, I really like tne features on Valhalla Final, but the installation process seems crazy. I thought I could simply flash a ROM from recovery mode...please help?

You mean this?

Code:
1. Put ROM zip in SDcard.
2. Go to recovery mode.
3. Perform Wipe cache partition
4. Perform Wipe data\Factory reset
5. Perform Advanced -> Wipe dalvik cache
6. Perform Voodoo -> Disable Lagfix.
7. Perform Voodoo -> System Lagfix Off.
8. Perform Install zip file - choose ROM zip.
9. Allow ROM to start, mount mount points, flash kernel and finish.
10.Perform Voodoo -> Enable Lagfix.
11.Perform Voodoo -> System Lagfix On.
12.Perform Advanced - Reboot Recovery.
13.Perform Advanced - Fix Permissions.
14.Perform Back - Reboot System.
15. Let device stay untouched for 10 minutes.

It really is rather straightforward. It's just selecting those option in that order in recovery. Do you want a step by step with commentary? I'd be happy to give you one, but it might take a while.

As long as the ROM is made for your device you'll be safe to flash. Thisisn't effected by your current firmware or kernel as they will both be replaced when you flash a compatible ROM. Then any mods you flash will have to be compatible with the ROM you have flashed.

Ok..so,if Iwrite it down exactly...follow steps....then I should be able to flash this ROM? I just want someone to hold my hand as I walk into uncharted territory. You think my abilities, based on the preliminary rooting and cwm steps, make it likely that I will be successful?
