I am rooted, everything else is stock. I am thinking about installing a custom rom, most notebly CyanogenMod 10.1 - Android 4.2.2 - Jellybean. From what I gather, recoveries are unique to each kernal if I have that right? Do I need to install a kernal with recovery for the mentioned rom above, if I do, which one, this is a aosp rom. Also, what about a modem, do I need a different modem. I am coming from the htc evo v and when I flashed roms, we didn't have to deal with different recoveries and modems. Also, I have done a nandroid back up on this stock rom, as long as I use aosp roms, I can use the kernal I installed when I rooted (current) right?? And if I decide to go back to stock rom, I don't have to do anything but just flash the rom then?? I just want to make sure I have this right, don't need to brick my phone. Also, if I have to flash a different recovery, when exactly do I need to flash that??

I am on the xda site for this rom and it says flash recovery and modem if required, how do I know if its required?? I have been reading the thread and don't see anywhere where it says its required??

You dont need to flash a modem to use aosp jelly bean roms so dont worry about that.. you do need to flash the kernel in the instruction for the rom so u can use the recovery in that kernel.. just download the rom and gapps and kernel it told u to get.

Then flash the recovery it told you to. Then wipe data Then cache. Then dalvik cache . Then flash the rom then flash the gapps and reboot

But I suggest a different aosp Rom. Either pac in black or baked blackbean. They are both built with all the cm features and so much more. They are both 4.2.2. Cm10 is plain and not very customizable. Its not all that good in comparison. Cm has a well known name but it doesnt actually have anything special to offer compared to other aosp roms

Thanks for the reply, so, just to get this straight, I am on stock rom now, so after I download everything, I go into recovery and flash the kernal (with recovery), then stay in recovery, wipe data and caches, then flash the new rom and gapps??

After you ODIN or flash a recovery. You got to turn off your phone and go into recovery manually ( holding Volume up + Power button if I recall)

I keep forgetting people are using framaroot now and not having a recovery. :(

If you didnt flash agat thru odin then you need to. Otherwise you cant flash anything but tars and all aosp roms are in zips

framaroot makes it easy for the noob. combined with mobile odin they could flash aosp without a computer. i know you know. maybe a link in the one stop.lol

Yeah I'll definitely put something in the one stop later today. Im chilling kicking ass on black ops 2 at the moment

I did flash agat thru odin but I believe the one I flashed was the tar one, not the zip. Does that mean I won't be able to flash any zipps then?? I am a little confused.

Ahh good.. If u flashed the tar then u have the agat recovery and are good to go.. So just download the rom and gapps. I will put a link to el29 direct boot and el26 kernels in the one stop shop under kernels
