SweeterHome2 Beta

Hello, I downloaded this and have been playing around with it for a while. Huge potential! My biggest issue with continuing and making my theme is the icons, they are always fuzzy. Is there some settings that will make them as clear as normal? Thanks for your help!

I've experienced this as well. It seems that simply rebooting or waiting a bit will clear them up. Mine were fuzzy and now are fine.

@rjoudrey - Nice setup!

I'm agreeing with above comments about not needing a bunch of screens!

I really only use three screens. If one looks at rjoudrey's setup he could actually put all of his springboard (menu's) on the second row from the bottom into one tray that slides horizontally and fit EVERYTHING on all the screen pics he uploaded onto one screen!

That is what I LOVE about this home replacement. with a couple of clicks I can access ANY feature or app on the phone and it will look good doing it as I can then close the springboards and just show some nice background. NO APP ICONS ALL OVER THE PLACE!!

The only problem using one screen is it gets really messy. The only way is to start with a good plan and layer each screen starting with layer 1, then two, etc. It would be almost impossible to go back and edit screen 1 once you have 5 or 6 layers on top of it. I think 3 - 4 variation are about the best you can do on any given screen.

Here is my further refined screens:

Rjoudrey,

That is an awesome theme setup you have going there! Is it, by any chance, shared on the server...it looks to be exactly what I am looking for!

Also, I am having issues getting Application Icons to show up like yours. Mine always show up as very small icons. I can increase the size of them by increasing the pixels, but then they just show up stretched out and blurry. How do you get the larger "normal" size icons to show up in the custom trays?

The fun is in learning if I upload all the fun is over. When you refresh your device the icon will clear up they are only fuzzy when you re-size them. To have just icons select "Icon Graphic Only". Carefully set up your cell ht 94, width 94, Icon Size 84. Remember the screen width is 480 so use multiples of it less a bit, example 480 / 5 = 96 less 2 (for padding) = 94.

i have 9 different layers PLUS 2 widgets (beautiful smaller home and the picture widget) on ONE screen and ALL are easily accessible to edit. The only other screen i use is the one underneath home which has all applications on it. i just did a variation on the rosetta theme so the left and right sides are there but i deleted the trays. if you want to take a look at all the options it's named MySpinOnRosetta :D there's some hidden secrets i should tell you about. this is talking about the "phone" button not the two buttons on either side of "phone". if you hit the right side of "phone" it brings up yur favs and last calls. if you hit the left side of "phone" it brings up the dialer. the + button on the right of the "phone" button is a clear tray with a black frame so that you can put yur most used apps on it. the up arrow button on the left side of the "phone" button is where i have all my fav contacts. i'd give a screenshot but this forum isn't letting me for some reason.

Re-size you screen shots to 280 px tall and it will accept, am looking forward to seeing your screens.

I will say that the usability for this layout is very good. Very responsive and much faster than the other Home Screen Replacements I have tried. The only complaint would be sluggish scrolls, left or right. I have noticed that you have to slide your finger in an area that has no content for it to work right. Some widgets lag in updating like battery and silent.

Has anyone else had a problem updating Widgets? My Sweeter Home application will randomly force close and when it comes back up none of my widgets will update. For example, my Beautiful Home widget, the time will not update (whatever time it was when I get the FC is the time it will forever be). I even tried to reboot the phone..no luck the widget was still stuck. The only way I can find to fix it is to go into the Themes section and reload my saved theme.

Is anyone else seeing this? Kind of freaked me out when I woke up at 6am and my Beautiful Widgets clock says 11:30.

I have had this issue a couple of times and fixed it in the same manner as you. I believe it has only happened when I have been editing my layout, not with normal use. I am not certain about this though, as I really have not stopped editing my layout very much since installing SweeterHome.

@Gremlin256

"I downloaded themes and none of the pictures transferred for me " Awesome - I guess that was fixed. :D

"I have downloaded the BSG theme and I trying to learn how to customize stuff.. I am using Beautiful Home Widget and the clock does not get updated.. and I set it to yes for configurable and configured what I needed and the clock still does not change.. It only changes if I click on edit theme.." I'm not sure as I don't use the Beautiful Home Widget... I'll try it out and see if I can duplicate your issue.

"There is button called settings (I think it is a springboard) I want to add apps on there? Can i just drag and drop apps on it? How do I delete the icons if I do not need them?" You can not add an app to a springboard - a springboard controls a tray (any kind of tray). To add an app to a tray long press a blank area of the tray and the menu will pop up. To remove an app from a tray long press on the app and drag it off the tray (similar to removing one from the stock Android home screens except you don't have to drag to the trash - In SH just drag it out of the tray.)

"How do i add a new widget on another screen? I think I am missing the easiest one.." While in that screen enter edit mode/menu/new... Select "system widget" then select the widget block on the screen, long press and select edit (to edit the widget block). Use "Widget Select" to select a Widget. Then if necessary select "Widget Configure" to go to that widgets configuration. One the widget is displayed on the screen and you have exited edit mode - if the widget has a visible shortcut to enter edit mode that can be used.

This is why I think you need to start on a up or down blank screen and experiment building the different types of items. When you have one you like copy and paste it to your home screen. I do not think it is necessarily easier to modify other peoples work. Just ask basic questions when you simply can not figure it out.

Just treat it like a learning experience and be patient! ;)

Many of our devices are memory challenged. EDITING SH uses up a LOT of memory. Exiting SH clears the cache that SH was using (icons, graphics, etc.)

I suggest that if you are doing some heavy editing exit SH from time to time to clear that cache. This will clear out the fuzzy icons and help with some of the graphic/picture/widget blocks not loading.

Also, keep in mind that since we are dealing with limited memory, it is BEST to resize ALL graphics and pictures that will be used in SH to minimize their data footprint. This keeps Android from having to resize them and keeps the processes running faster. People that use large images without resizing them (from the net or large family pictures that have been copied to the SDcard) may experience issues with the images loading up and see checkerboards.

Just like the custom ROM/OS devs optimize all of the images within the Android OS we should optimize images we are using in SH.

For people new to customizing cell phones just keep in mind that these devices are NOT full size computers. They are very limited in resources - both in computing and in memory. It is just a limitation we have to work around.

Can anyone tell me how to momentarily hop back to the normal home so that I can clear my widgets?

Or, you can go to Menu/Settings/Applications/ManageApplications/SweeterHome and select to clear the defaults

This will give the option of selecting SH or "Home" when you short press the home button on the phone.

From SH it would be Menu/More/SystemSettings/Applications/ManageApplications/SweeterHome

Hey rjoudrey, which note app do you use to get that widget? It's the one in the third screengrab, if I'm not mistaken.

It is Sticky Memo Widget. I asked the other day. SweeterHome allows the use of widgets that I would have never used before because of real estate.

Jolene, I might be playing with fire here, but can I ask you to try the app again? If you get the same error, remove the SD card and restart...

Also what OS are you running, and are you rooted?

I'm trying to get more info about this for the dev... it seems isolated to Droids only, and even then only a couple of instances...

The day it happened to me i tried to pull the sd card and it did not work... It happened to me again twice yesterday. I have just been calling my phone to get it out of its mode :)

I do have a droid on 2.0.1 not rooted. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for your help!
