SweeterHome2 Beta

Those of you that had "bricked" phones (caddyman, etc) was there any hope for you to restore it to normal?

I played with a bit of it today and edited my own theme. I like it so far, the only annoyance is that when I configure widgets or stuff, how do I hide it so it's not in the way of my screen? So say I put a 4x4 widget on my screen, it now takes up all of the screen and I can no longer edit anything below it.

Until I get a confirmation from the dev that the bricking of phones has officially been resolved, I still won't use this on a daily basis.

This seems to happen on Droids only. Until we get a logcat from someone having the boot issue it's not resolvable - so we need your help! :)

Has anyone else had a problem updating Widgets? My Sweeter Home application will randomly force close and when it comes back up none of my widgets will update.

Is anyone else seeing this? Kind of freaked me out when I woke up at 6am and my Beautiful Widgets clock says 11:30.

Please remember to log a bug report through the app menu when stuff like this happens...

You would move that 4x4 to a lower level (change level to 5 or 1) and add another item through the menu.

Visual enhancement:

I laid a color window behind the bottom area. It is not as opaque in reality.

Now if I could only get the icons to have shadows. :D

How did you change the icons? i installed better cut and cant figure it out.... i did something like that on my theme... putting the apps below the spingboards so you had the icon but it did not open the application... but i want different icons... any suggestions?

The springboards sit in front of the icons. The icons are pictures sitting behind (lower level) than the springboard. The springboards have clear color for text and background, and the active setting has same color text and background.

Good luck!

:) yeah i got that/... i guess here is my question... are you using a tray with applications/shortcuts in it and then the clear springboard over it? or are you using a picture with the clear springboard over it? I was using a tray with the the clear springboard over it making the applications useless besides for thier look. like you would click the calendar icon and it would pull up a springboard with my pure calendar widget. i want to use different icons from a icon pack but cannot figure out bettercut and how to make a shortcut with bettercut appear on my tray...

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm thinkin... Rj has a droid.... I have a droid.... Lots of others have a droid....

How bout sharing :)

Really nice work!!

I'm holding off on SH2 until the boot problem is for sure resolved, my phone acts as 911 dispatch for me when my pager and radio are not on me, so I cannot have it out of commission as much as I REALLLLLLLLLY wanna start messin around with SH2!!

Many of our devices are memory challenged. EDITING SH uses up a LOT of memory. Exiting SH clears the cache that SH was using (icons, graphics, etc.)

I suggest that if you are doing some heavy editing exit SH from time to time to clear that cache. This will clear out the fuzzy icons and help with some of the graphic/picture/widget blocks not loading.

Also, keep in mind that since we are dealing with limited memory, it is BEST to resize ALL graphics and pictures that will be used in SH to minimize their data footprint. This keeps Android from having to resize them and keeps the processes running faster. People that use large images without resizing them (from the net or large family pictures that have been copied to the SDcard) may experience issues with the images loading up and see checkerboards.

Just like the custom ROM/OS devs optimize all of the images within the Android OS we should optimize images we are using in SH.

For people new to customizing cell phones just keep in mind that these devices are NOT full size computers. They are very limited in resources - both in computing and in memory. It is just a limitation we have to work around.

Shaneaus: Thanks for the post.. interesting I did not get an update email regarding this post :(

I am guessing the wallpapers should not be transferred when you download someone else's theme correct?

I figured the widget thing out :) .. I am going to start sweeter home from scratch..I just wish there was documentation of what each value does?? for example what does Column Layer mean? Default value is 10.. I have no idea what it does..

Juneau: .. I read the post regarding the Pure Calendar Widget.. Sorry to confuse you if it is in a thread.. as I am confused myself.. I have tried all themes and increased and decreased transparency I still get the border of today's date extending into next date..

CorinaCakes: Your theme is improving more and more :) The latest one is better than the old one..

you have to edit the springboard to allow shortcuts :D

I believe you are correct in regards to the wallpaper, as no wallpaper has come with a downloaded theme.

Layers are sort of like layers of paper. Layer one is the bottom sheet, layer 10 is the top sheet, with the rest between the two. Place whatever you wish on the various layers and that is how the will appear on the screen. So in other words, if you put icons on layer 1, then a full screen widget on layer two, the widget will cover the icons.

Is your problem with Pure Grid Calender only a problem in SweeterHome? If so, try enlarging your tray that the widget is on. I am not sure if this will help or not but maybe it just isn't scaling properly for you. If it is an issue in the stock home, then I have no idea especially if you have tried the default theme and still have the issue.

I have tried it every theme.. and i still get the overlap.. it is okay :) I am going to deal with it and it is no biggie.. the widget would not even run before when I purchased it and now it is working so it is okay..

Thanks for helping with th layer :)

The only problem using one screen is it gets really messy. The only way is to start with a good plan and layer each screen starting with layer 1, then two, etc. It would be almost impossible to go back and edit screen 1 once you have 5 or 6 layers on top of it. I think 3 - 4 variation are about the best you can do on any given screen.

I suspect that you're not aware of the easy method which one can use to edit trays/widgets/etc which are directly atop one another. There is no need to assign these items different layers, you simply hold down as if attempting to edit, then select which item you wish to edit; all items which are below where you press, regardless of what their layer number is, will be listed at the bottom of the normal edit list.

I have six layers of full screen stuff on my single homescreen and it works like a charm. No need to go outside of the one homescreen at all - though I personally do use a second homescreen solely to list ALL applications.

On my homescreen, I have six springboards arranged along the bottom . Each springboard triggers trays and/or widgets which each cover the entire screen:

Direct Contact Calls
Contact list / Call History
Messages
Favorite Apps
Music
Calendar

All neatly accessed via springboards, all covering the whole home screen.
