Swype avail for Eris

Thanks for the post. Writing with it now. I like it.
In beta as well, but made for Eris.
Auto caps works and it's a cleaner interface, IMO, albeit the buttons are a bit smaller.
Anyone else try Shape Writer yet?

Gotta swallow my pride and take back what I originally posted. Got tired of the tiny buttons on ShapeWriter.

I'm back on Swype.:p

Just came across this, going to take a bit of getting used to, but I can see how much quicker I could be over time with this ... hopefully it'll get an "official" release in the near future, definitely will shell out a few bucks for this.

i have it installed and everything, followed all of the steps. but when i click on the tap to compose, nothing happens. no keyboard shows whatsoever. any ideas?

FYI I've noticed a problem with sense UI when Swype is enabled. You can't select widget or shortcuts for removal on the lower half of the screen when Swype is enabled. Once you disable Swype, there is no problem removing items from the lower half of the screen. Anyone else notice this?

thanks to all who helped out. Got it, and got it working - Special thanks to Caddyman. Big problem with windows 7 is that I couldn't change the file extension. Worked fine after going to a XP puter. Gonna take a while to get used to though. First impression = WOW!

can someone PLEASE pm me the link to a download that works? i downloaded/installed one already, but when i tap the "tap to compose" box, no keyboard shows.

no i meant nuts in a good way haha i just did the tutorial. though in the tutorial, i got a force quit. hopefully thats the only one i'll be seeing.

I like Swype a lot but I still find the regular keyboard better for me. But I'd like to keep Swype on my phone because it is pretty cool and there might be some times that I'd prefer to text with one hand. I like that I can easily switch from one input method to the other right in the text field. Just wondering, is there any disadvantage to keeping Swype on my phone even though I won't be using it as my main text method? Will it cause any slow down?

Thanks

BTW, anyone know how to make it auto-capitalize the world after a period?

Got it installed and seemed to work fine in the tutorial, but as soon as I rebooted, multiple errors. I've been getting them fairly regularly when installing various apps. I feel another hard reset coming on...phone is back to normal after uninstall and reboot. Hard reset avoided for now...

I didn't find auto capitalize but if you Swype to above the keyboard then to the second letter it capitalizes the first letter. Swyping from my Eris now.

i use win 7 and changed the extension....dont know what you were doing wrong....when you go to rename, it highlights the filename and leaves the extension, you just have to move past the . and change the extension...i know you got it working now but maybe for later on down the road

I don't know if this applies to windows 7 as I haven't had the chance to try it yet, but you may need to change the folder settings to display file extensions.

Don't see why we wouldn't be able to use it... It's equally not "meant" for our Eris now but it works, so I'm keeping with that philosophy for when we FINALLY get our 2.1 update :)

does anybody know if we will be able to continue using swype once we get the 2.0 update ????

On the XDA site, they say:

"Here is a release of Swype for the G1/any other android device. It should work on any build of any rom. (as long as it is android 1.5+) "

I think that's the version we're using on our phones, so I think that we are going to be able to keep it when we update. Just my best guess, time will tell, but I hope it's going to still be here because I love Swype!
