Swype avail for Eris

I have shapewriter but would really like to try swype... where is this link at? and what's the big deal with taking it down if its free. PM would be great.

Found it. Holy cow swype is WAY better than shapewriter!!!

Caddy..Thanks for the help last evening.
I finally figured out what I was doing wrong to get this installed. Had to do with the file extension

This keyboard is awesome! I can "type" way faster.
Make sure you go through the tutiorial after install. It will answer most questions.

Can't wait for the production model. They'll have to go along way to beat what they have now.

I'd have no problem paying for this app.

Wow, this was an easy install. Is there any way to have it set to only use for portrait and use the stock keyboard for landscape?

Wow very interesting... only been playing with it for a few minutes but think I could get pretty fast at it! Seems very accurate so far... neat!

works like a charm, I didn't have to reboot. No issues so far, seems to be faster than regular touch/release typing. :-) we'll see what happens after a few weeks of use though.

Doesn't insert a space after words even though I have that option selected in the Swype settings... think someone mentioned that before, any workaround/ideas? Thanks!

It isn't "free". It was a restricted beta that was publicly leaked without permission. See post #131.

Ahh that sucks. My bad, kind of feel guilty now.

But not really, this thing is great! I would recomend they sue the person that leaked it, officially release with a little update, cause I would deff pay at least a buck or two for this keyboard. The longer they delay the more people will have it for free.

Do they have an official site so I can read the whole story?

it does. Once you swype one word just start the next word and it will make the space.

just in case anyone gets stuck in the same spot I did.....:o you don't rename it with .apk on your pc, but once it's on your eris - using astro - press and hold the folder to rename it there...:o

Gosh. This swyping stuff seems space age to me. Isn't droid amazing?

It would be nice if they could add haptic feedback to the keyboard when you use it in non swype mode.

<lightbulb illuminates> AHA! That makes it much speedier, I was manually inserting it every time and thinking "man, this will never be faster than the keyboard" lol. Thanks!

Hmmm, am I missing a key that will drop the keyboard down like the default keyboard? Some websites that require a username and password will act like I hit "Login" if I use the return key after putting in my username without putting anything in for my password.

Holding down the menu key has been working for me 100% to "dismiss" or "lower" the keyboard and/or bring back up the keyboard to jump to and from multiple entry boxes.

sniff, sniff.....WTF am I doin' wrong??? Downloaded, installed. Keyboard won't show up. When I pick Swype from "Text input", it selects it Ok, but NO keyboard. I even watched Tutorial....NOPE....goes through step by step, but Can't see keyboard.......WEIRD !!

Anyone?????????????????

Are you saying you did this in the menu selection? Or you opened up a text/email and held down the text field until you got to chose which input it wanted? This seems to be the last step everyone forgets as it had me stumped for a lil bit too.

no, no...I did it right. But, they actual keyboard won't show. Even in tutorial, it goes through the steps "showing" how it works, but, NO keyboard to see.

Hmm...try this. Uninstall, reboot, reinstall, follow all steps and try again.

Not seen this error before.

I still like it but I'm finding it might not be as useful as I first thought. I think my speed using it is about the same as the standard keyboard and it is a lot harder to use when driving I guess I'll probably switch back and forth depending on what I'm doing.

Did you follow all instructions I posted?

8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype
9.Reboot your phone. This seems to help in not having any FC's

Swype's been great since you posted this reminder. Thanks.
