Swype avail for Eris

if i use this 'Swype' would i be able to use it with handcent SMS? i would like to use the swpye keyboard with the handcent app.

bump-- sry but debating whether or not i should use it, any answers to this question?

It's worth it to try. It sounds geeky describing inputting text on a keyboard as "fun", but it really is cool to practice and get faster and more efficient than tapping.

so i installed swype everything went well but when i set it to use it wont open it just opens as the stock keyboard

if you read the above posts, users have explained that already, just hold click on an input box and select the default as swype.

someone answer my question regarding the Swype compatibility with handcent please lol. thanks!

It works with handcent.

But after texting for some time with a lady friend..I am going back to the standard one.I like it more.

this is awesome! I was just describing swype to one of my patients who has hand weakness, and has a hard time typing on her phone. I think it will be a big help to people with disabilities.

I was seriously skeptical when I read about Swipe ... but it just took me a couple minutes of use to realize that this is killer. It's my new default keyboard, without a doubt. (Kind of reminds me of text input on an old Palm Pilot, though ... :) )

One problem, though ... I can't get letters with apostrophes to work. Has anyone been successful at that?

Okay, I'm an idiot or something... When i click on the link i get a Winrar .zip file. There is no .zip in the file name or .anything in the file name. So i rename the file and add .apk to the file name. Add it to my sdcard. Open it with astro. Click on the file, and there is no installationg. It just opens into a new file of things like assets, classes, lib, etc. I go to loacale to add swype. it's not there. i have install from outside markets checked. What am i missing?

*Nevermind i found the problem. I had to change the file type before i download it.

ok installed this earlier...went back to the normal keyboard...but using it tonite and the more you use it the better and better it gets.....seriously liking this

also the crash i was getting when i backspaced went away once i rebooted the phone

I really liked this keyboard but It force closes on me way to much.
from what I noticed it would force close when I held the backspace button.
Also when I went from regular keyboard to landscape sometimes it would fc on me.
I hope this helps the developer and he/she is able to fix these they would get a lot of bussiness from eris users I believe.

This is a beta. This was not even meant for the Eris or any other HVGA phone. Someone tweaked it so we could use it on our phones but we have the same issues as the WVGA users. Again, its a beta. Swype is done, but waiting for retailers (Verizon, AT&T, etc) to pick it up.

alright alright i'll try it... quit pushing. :)

tho i do like better keyboard, but (i'll prolly get yelled at) you cant drive and txt with it easily

after using it quite a bit yesterday I found some words I am able to input without even looking at the screen at all. If I could learn to do that a bit more it'd be safer driving.

Thank you. You get like 3 awesome points for this from me, been wanting this since I saw how great swype was on the omnia and how bad the OS was on the omnia in the store.

Cute story, I showed it to my buddy who's had a G1 since release, opened a text message to him so he could check it out, so of course he put it any profanity/offensive statement he could think of, and hit send. Turned out the last person I had received a txt from was my mom.

Thank god I have cool parents... Hell, my mom used to date Captain Crunch's room-mate back sometime in the early 70's.

Just got our head of dev to test this out. Guy is 60+ He said this will make working from his home so much easier since he doesnt have to get on the laptop/computer to send out emails now.
