Swype avail for Eris

Yeah, for those having FC issues, reboot and make sure you followed this step:

8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype

I haven't had a single hookup using it. Very nice!

Installed, thanks for the post! Some of the symbols do not populate properly, but I understand this is beta. The biggest problem I have is that my finger covers most of the letters on the keyboard and I cant see the next letter I want to use, probably will get used to it after some more practice.

I've found that using my index finger works best. If I try and use my thumb (like I would with the regular keyboard) I have a hard time seeing where I'm going.

Ya, my thumb covers it up too, but Im starting to remember patterns for each word so its making it easier without seeing all the keys. And sometimes I guess and it gets it for me as well. This thing is GOD.

i like it but still use better keyboard for long txts and what not, i still cant remember where all the letters are nd cant spell to save my like, so i just switch between the two ... :)

Dude you are awesome!! I love this thing!! I am having one problem though. I can't get it to work in landscape mode. Is anyone else having the same problem?

Thanks

Tested and works fine for me. Did you reboot after install? I wouldnt recommend landscape mode as this is made for reg mode. So much easier this way.

swype is awesome. now it's my default keyboard. I only wish it capitalized words, after a period, I's that are individual, and capitalized names automatically. Other than that I love it.

No FC's at all for me and I have rebooted after installing it.

Found this and thought I would pass it along to you guys as this forum has helped me so much I thought I would repay it some how. Hopefully this doesnt violate any rules since im linking to another site, if it does, Im sorry.

1. Download swype here. [Link removed] (if for some reason it downloads as .zip, just change the file extension to .apk)
2. Transfer to your Eris via USB
3. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources (You all prob have done this before but my n00b friends had not so I thought I would mention it anyways)
4. Use a file manager program such as Astro File Manager and go to the location you stored the .apk
5. Install
6. After install go to Settings -> Locale & Text -> Check Swype
7. Open any email/text client and hold down the text box and you will get a popup asking what you want for input. Select Swype. You only have to do this once and it will do it for all your programs.
8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype
9.Reboot your phone. This seems to help in not having any FC's

I recommend reading the tutorial. Helped me. This is very sick. I now love one handed emailing and texting as its so simple.

ENJOY!:)

Dont tell your husband about our secret affair. Im not telling my wife, lol...Glad it worked for ya. I hated my friends that had the Moto Droid and I showed them how to install it but couldnt for mine. Now the Eris is back to being a better phone than the Moto Droid

It was the #1 thing I missed when I switched from the Moto Droid. Of course, I had no idea that I wouldn't be able to get it... I was soooo disappointed :( But no I am happy again and totally in love with this phone (oh, and you too, he he).

Swype is too cool! My fav app, by far! It doesnt do apostrophes, as already noted, but I guess I can live with that. It does take a little getting used to.
Thanks a mil,
SlickRick

It does do apostrophes. Read tutorials. Ill give you a hint, swype that key and it adds to it. Ive Swyped the , key and it added it as ' Hope this works for you

So I installed swype yesterday and it works great, so thanks for link and info on it!! Has anyone noticed any kind of performance impact on the phone since installing it. My phone seems to be running a little more sluggish today and wasnt sure if anyone else has seen any difference since they installed swype.

Hmmm, am I missing a key that will drop the keyboard down like the default keyboard? Some websites that require a username and password will act like I hit "Login" if I use the return key after putting in my username without putting anything in for my password.

I usually use the back button in the home key row, seems to work whenever I've tried it.

Well now that is just the coolest damn thing I've ever seen. I had issues with typing with the sense keyboard I guess thats what happens when you go from a BB with the Qwerty to a touch but this, this is just awesome
