Swype for android leaked!

redflea, Swype does seem to apostrophize (?...lol) some words. It seems to intuitively know most of them. You simply drag down to the apostrophe and it automatically brings it from that key, even though it is an ALT symbol.
I'll have to concentrate on this for a bit to be sure I'm correct...

Go through the tutorial... It helps a lot. To make anything possessive, just swype the word first, pause, then swipe the apostrophe to the s and it automatically adds an ['s] to anything.

hmmm idk how i have a mac should that make a difference? it says its on my phone but astro wont find it it says directory is empty

Wow, just installed this with ease.. it works great. Can't wait for auto cap and double tab for periods. This is very nice. Although I can't get swype the word 'pretty'

@reggie16 - make sure you unmount your phone once the apk file is there, then use astro to install.

@zandroid - typing double letters is easy. "Pretty" is easy when you get to the "t" make a small loop at that key. They show you how in the tutorial.

Swipe Period -> Space Bar and it will give you a [. ] automatically. You are probably having issues with the double "t" in pretty. Per the tutorial, make a small loop on a letter for double letters.

sweeeet been waiting for this app to be ported to android since i saw it for the new samsung omnia 2 with winmo.

Were you able to extract the .apk file from the downloaded .zip file? I tried it initially on my Mac and stuffit extracted the contents of the entire file. Had to switch over to XP to get the .apk file to extract. Then move to the root of your sd card, disconnect and then find it with Astro. Click and run.

thanks, I should check out the tutorial.

Oh SLICK!!! I've been using ShapeWriter, but I've been frustrated with two of what I felt were its main limitations--punctuation (having to go either to the number screen or side-scroll through a menu) and (go ahead and laugh at me for this one) emoticons!! I love that there's a dedicated key for those--final-freaking-ly!!!

Now if someone would come up with a truly good T9 keyboard, I'd be thrilled... off to practice with Swype now. :-D

One thing I don't like is that you can't hold the backspace button down to delete long rows of text. it only deletes one word at a time.

I agree with you 100 % . I also hope that they allow a landscape option when the end product is released.

been using this and it seems to work for simple words best but it actually makes you somewhat more accurate. im even making some complex words with it. love it so far.

I have this installed on my Droid running 2.0.1, but I was wondering, does it work with 2.1 because I am installing it tonight and I want to keep Swype!

How do we know there is no malware or anything in that downloadable file?

I don't know how secure this makes it but under permissions this app doesn't have network access. The only permission I see is to read contact data and user defined dictionary which seems pretty necessary for a keyboard app.

If it was a keystroke logger I would think it would need network permissions to upload that data to 'the evil-doers'.

edit:
Wow this is a fast moving thread, Vincent beat me to the punch.

Hmmm...it didn't work for me on a couple of contractions I tried - I had to add the apostrophe manually via the method below. I've found you actually don't really need to pause, which is nice - when I've typed a couple of contractions I've just kept going through the apostrophe and it's worked fine.

Go through the tutorial... It helps a lot. To make anything possessive, just swype the word first, pause, then swipe the apostrophe to the s and it automatically adds an ['s] to anything.

What I'm having more trouble with is capitalization...initial capitalization needs to be added to the app - that's just a very rudimentary feature that should be there.

I am finding that the more I use Swype, the more I like it. This may actually replace Shapewriter for me. The overall accuracy seems higher (or put another way, it seems more forgiving of my swiping errors), and the hold on a key to get the alternate symbol is something I've really missed from the HTC Touch keyboard I've also used on my Droid.
