Swype for android leaked!

I've been using ShapeWriter and its pretty awesome. I can't wait for this if all of you are saying its better.

Hopefully someone will release this for Hero sized screen phones soon.

For the few minutes I have been playing with this I am very impressed. I love the edit keys (cut, copy, paste, ect). There goes another wasted day at work as I play with this.

I am having trouble saving words to the dictionary, I cant figue it out. can anyone tell me how to get back to the tutorial

thanks joe

The bottom left key(long press) will get you back to the tutorial. To save words in the dictionary. TAP the word in, not swipe, followed by a space, and it will be in the dictionary.

Man, I love this app!! So much easier for me

I know this is a work in progress but it would be nice to have the option of tactile and/or sound feedback when tapping words in (I do have sound enabled in the settings but no luck).

If you don't change from portrait to landscape too often, you could always leave both the default keyboard and Swype enabled, and switch between them by long-press in an input field - that will bring up a dialog with an "Input method" option listed along with cut/paste, etc.

Select Input Method and choose your Android keyboard when in landscape, Swype when in portrait. Requires a couple taps, but if you don't change too often, not a big deal...

Yeah I have it set up this way already but I do tend to switch between both orientations frequently so it ends up being a little annoying.

hmm anyone find that this app is draining battery really fast. in the app managers it doesn't show it as taking up a lot of battery but my battery is already down to 70% and its only been unplugged for about 4 hrs now with light usage. i haven't seen the battery drain this fast before and i haven't installed anything else since yesterday besides Swype.

My only complaint is that when I am composing an e-mail it does not predict the contacts like before. For example I would type in someones name and it would predict the email address.

it might be draining batteries because the application is running in the background reporting your keystrokes. I like this mode of input better in portrait mode. the only concern I have is that when using this keyboard it is sending my keystroke information. but I just typed this whole thing using swype with minimal mistakes, but im still a bit slow.

works for me. tested it on my gmail first and predicted just fine. right now my only wonder is how to enter my text from landscape mode after ive finished typing. like when im done typing theres no done button.

I'm finding that it does not trigger for several apps even if specified.
Like K-9 Mail, Facebook app, gmail app, Handsent, regular messaging.
All the ones you really want it for. I though it was cool but if I can't use it where needed, it annoying. :(

It' very hit and miss.

So far it's worked in every app I've tried it in, including Gmail, Email, Facebook, Chomp SMS, stock browser, Dolphin browser, and every app I've tried it with on my Droid.

It sounds like there is something wrong with your install.

I absolutely love this app. The Droid is my first touchscreen phone, and the physical keyboard is just annoying to use. I was worried about the touch screen, and with my fat fingers was getting a bit frustrated with the OSK in potrait.. but with Swype I am typing faster than I ever did with a physical KB. I also prefer using it in landscape mode, but I have big hands so it's not as much of a problem holding the phone in just my left hand. I really hope this hits the market, even a full version of shapewriter would be nice as it works just as well.

As for app compatibility, Swype has worked in everything I have ran so far.

tried it couldnt get it to work on the g1 =(
looks like it would be awesome tho
says it only works on WVGA phones. so hi-res screens only for now. i'm sure they will be coming out with a version that will support everything else. Also there is a program that is just like this called slideIT that is coming very soon to android.

I just got back from a cruise to Cabo and this was a nice treat to come back to. I saw a tweet from intomobile about it and installed it right away, no PC needed, just DL and then install via Astro. I love how it works, some things take some getting used to but it seems to be very fast and impressively accurate for me!

I had been using shapewriter for a little while and decided to toss this on instead. IMHO it is much better and has sped up my typing by a long shot. Im not sure how i lived with the stock keyboard and shapewriter for as long as i did.

I'm finding it hard to get used to still but very cool and surely worth a try by anyone who is even remotely "swype-curious" ;)

Just installed this, and i'm still clunky using it.

But I just went into my banking app, and a screen where it only allows numeric input that the old keyboard always gave me a qwerty layout for, Swype gave me a phone style numeric layout. AWESOME.

:)
