swype to type

How many Swype threads must be started? Sheesh! In regards to the reporting issue, no network access, no logging ability. Even so, someone already mentioned the long press in the text box, but if you have the DROID, just slide the keyboard out and use that. Quicker than a long press ;)

Also, I don't know if it's been mentioned on here yet (though I find it hard to believe it hasn't), but there's an app called Holla, which converts what you say into text format. Costs a buck. It's not perfect yet, but it's pretty cool.

gotta admit, i got it just to have it, and to show off. but in the couple minutes i spent playing with it, it kinda grew on me.

Am I the only one who prefers Shapewriter over the currently released Swype? I prefer MANY of Swype's features, and its algorithm is definitely better, but the inability to autocapitalize (I know how to do it both through the upswipe and through the shift, but it's annoying) and inability of the beta to autospace after a period (weirdly, it works after a comma and similar punctuation marks) are dealbreakers for me at this point.

It is a beta version ya know

I do know that; that's why I'm unsure about why everyone's crapping their pants over it. If the full version included these things, I'd definitely switch to using it; as it stands now, the usability of ShapeWriter is dramatically better overall, though, for me.

Has anyone used Swype on another device? Can you confirm whether or not autospacing after periods and autocapitalization occurs?

I just down loaded and installed ShapeWriter. I disabled Swype and used ShapeWriter for a few emails and I like it better than Swype. It seemed just as good plus it capitalized and spaced.

I'm pretty concerned about Swype's stated marketing plan (sell to OEM's) and their statement (as reported elsewhere) that our versions are time limited. If they don't have plans to sell it to us individually, I don't want to spend any more time on it.

How much does shapewriter cost?

also we got "our" versions by downloading the apk from the internet, not the marketplace. therefore how would they be able to time limit us if our swype apk is not connected to the market?

ShapeWriter is free.

Other trial software has either a number of days or a number of uses that triggers an end of function switch. I guess Swype could too.

This is really stupid, I can't type the word "a". It autocorrects to "aby" every time and I have to backspace to fix it. How do i correct this?

nice. If I turn off "predict text as i type" it works again too, but that gives me the best of both worlds. This thing is crazy, I like it!

I like swype better. Maybe I just didn't give Shape writer enough time but swype seemed smoother and more accurate. Swyping this reply

I really liked swype. Until it started freezing up my phone. Middle of a swype the phone would start ringing and then it's stuck in a loop - can't do anything til I pull the battery.

another example of why i guess I might not be cut out for beta. I didn't just sign up for a $3000 + contract to be part of a testing group whose phone would consistently freeze and or force close on and on.

Again though just trying to understand - is the reason there are bugs with these apps because the developers don't write good linux or is it because there are quirks with the OS that have nothing to do with the dev's abilities as programmers? Where do all these weird app problems come from?
