Root System update

That's correct... any stock-based ROM should be able to take the OTA, but for sure the straight stock can take the OTA without problems. You're in good shape if you want to give it a shot.

I don't think so. Even the "real" stock ROM couldn't take the OTA due a bunch of modified files. Additionally, stock recovery needed as well. See my post in the previous page.

Is there a way to get back to stock so i can take these updates without a computer ..... I'm rooted s-on with 4ext recovery BT kernel and mobsters HD ROM ......

Thank you for your useful post. Per this guidance, you'll have to flash a stock recovery and restore backups of any modified system files before taking the OTA.

When I took the OTA, I first ran the RUU, then OTA, then OTA (was going to provide a stock+updates nandroid, but someone else uploaded first). That's where I was confused, so thank you for clarifying that.

Unfortunately I believe the RUU can only be run from a computer since it's an exe file. You could do S-OFF and flash the firmware from your SD Card, but that requires a computer as well...

If you S-OFF, you don't really *need* a computer for anything else, unless you have a need or want to run the RUU again.

Blah.... Guess I can just wait till I have access to one to do it ........... For now I'll see wat you guys come up with about the update and if it doesn't work with certain kernels and what not

I've been keeping up with this thread and have been sitting here thinking I can be helping if I had a computer..... Lol

There is a signed zip file version of the VM RUU that you could flash from the SD card via the bootloader but you would need to lock your bootloader before running that. The fastboot command to lock the bootloader requires a computer, but you had to use one to flash the unlock .bin file when you rooted as well.

Yeah my laptop went down shortly after rooting ......won't boot up gets this blue screen that flashes and boots all over again...... I wish I knew how to install Ubuntu or whatever its called on my laptop then I could really get into this phone ROM building business if not at least to make a ROM tailored to me........ Ya know

You beat me to it :p PG86IMG version can be flashed through bootloader no pc required, s-on is fine since it's an official signed htc file!

Do you have a link to that file? I don't like having to boot into Windows to use the RUU... it's not like I do it every day (in fact, I've only done it once), but it's the principle of it :P

I've been using Linux for more than 15 years now, back when it was a real pain in the neck to use (Slackware, Gentoo first generation - worked on some of the guides, etc). If you need help, feel free to send me a message and I'd be happy to help you out.

Restoring deleted/renamed/modified files to original is required because OTA checks every file that needs to be patched before applying a patch. If a file in the ROM does not match the original file, patch can't be applied and OTA update process stops with an error message. The files that are not going to be patched can be left as they will not affect the update process. You can find which files will be patched by looking in the OTA zip for the files with .p extension in the patch folder.

You are welcome :)

On Nega rom (which has been updated to the new ota update info) I keeo getting a connection optimizer has stopped error. It does not appear that there is a way under mobile settings on here to turn it off. Can I just delete the APK from Root Explorer?

Yes. Just delete it.

So the real test will be when I head back to work Monday after spring Break where I know the signal is weak to non-existent, but so far in the areas I have been it does seem like the signal is a little stronger. I definitely seem to have an increased 4g presence.

I'm rooted, but running full stock - virgin mobile. When I try to install the update it goes into team win recovery.
