Help System Upgrade 2.29.405.5

Evening folks

I've just got a message on my HTC Desire to install a software update (2.29.405.5)

I tried to install the update but when the phone turns off and starts to progress through the update it stops with a red warning triangle and I have to take the battery out to restart the phone.

My Desire is an de-branded O2 Stock but I have had 3 successful updates since I de-branded it back at the beginning of the year.

I've also done a search on the software update and there are post as early as March and April this year so here are my questions.

Why would I only just be getting this update now on Christmas Eve?

And does anyone know why the update stops with a red warning triangle and I have to take the battery out to restart the phone.

Thanks in advance

Will

This is a recent update. We weren't even on froyo 2.2 in March an april. You must be thinking of a 2.1.1 update

Same problem, de-branded Orange and i'm stuck at the red triangle. Can i take the battery out and restart or will it hurt the phone or software?

Apparently for some reason this update is not working with debranded phones, the only way to get the update is to use an RUU which will unfortunately wipe your phones memory.

you can get the ruu here,
http://shipped-roms.com/download.php...811_signed.exe

Or you can just apply the update manually from the sd card in reocvery mode - There is a thread on here that details it all for you. Just make sure you have your gold card in.

I did it on mine and it worked a treat - no problems since doing it.

I have the same problem with debranded orange phone. Does anytime know what this update is for? I can't be bothered with an RRU again unless its worth it.

BTW you don't have to take your battery out when you get red triangle, just press power, volume down, and track-button at the same time.

My phone had stocks sync re-enabled after the update even though I have always had it disabled. Also, it started showing the weather animation on unlock even though I always had that turned off. Make sure you check your settings after you update. Using original unbranded unlocked phone.

If this is the case, how have I managed to install OTH updates before with no problems?

It can't be because I unbranded my phone using using gold card or all those other updates wouldn't have installed.

Most usually work. It's only this one that doesn't

Hi,
Earlier this month Approx 8th Dec, my Desire popped up saying i had a Software update available, but i cancelled it because i wasnt in Wifi Range and didnt have a good Mobile coverage in the area i was.
Anyhow,
I updated it last night (24/12/10) as it poppled back up again, i let it run its course, and it downloaded, installed but like mentioned by the first guy, it crashed and had the Red Triange.
I had to do the same and take my battery out,
But then when i restarted the phone, it loads upto the lock screen fine, and everything starts to load up at the top.
Once i slide the lock screen down i get the error

The Application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

I have looked through loads of sites regarding this.

Possible solutions included:
1)Take battery and SD card out for 15 secs
2)Get into settings and clear the Cache for Htc Sense
3)Remove any updates prior to the software update (google maps updated so i undid that)
4)Hard reset (restore factory settings)

I have tried every single one of these and still have the same problem.
Does anyone else know of anything that i might be able to try.
Im at wits ends with it all, i even tried to call the technical support and i got a message saying there closed until 4th Jan. - I can't wait that long!

Anyway,
Rant over.

Thanks for any help in Advance!

I've also had a prob updating but found it was due to a lack of memory. Delete some apps you don't use and try updating via WiFi . Job done.
I'm interested to know if anyone knows what if any new features or upgrades have been done ? What's new

Oh and a very merry Christmas to all who are celebrating today, to all other creed's and faiths peace and love to you all

Updated mine unsuccessfully OTA about 3-4 times so just used the RUU to wipe and install the minor update. Seems a bit quicker now :) even with all my apps back on it.

Did the most recent update OTA.

No problem.
The only change that I can see is that now mail in my inbox does not automatically delete itself when my PC downloads from the server. POP3

This was the original setting on the Desire and we lost it with FROYO.

If I wanted to keep an email, I had to delete it and keep it in Trash. Now it seems to remain in Inbox.

Do you need to be rooted to do this? Can you paste the link please?

Tried applying this on my unlocked, unbranded Orange UK Desire (not rooted, and with gold card correctly installed) and failed twice, so I decided it's not for me. No apparent harm done to Desire, but still at 2.29.405.2. Now HTC seem to agree - I'm not being offered it any more. Perhaps it's been pulled?

According to HTC on twitter, there was an update out for the Desire Z and Desire HD, but didn't refer to the ordinary Desire, so perhaps it wasn't really meant for the ordinary Desire. I think I'll be cautious and wait for the next OTA release.

Hi (first post)

I'm currently on my honeymoon and should be enjoying complementary free WIFI, but since the .5 update on xmas day I have not been able to connect to the network, it tries to receive an IP address and keeps failing. Thought it may have been the network, but my laptop and my wife's iPhone connect absolutely fine, which is annoying as usually I have bragging rights to the best phone! After the .2 update on xmas eve my WIFI was still working btw.

I haven't tampered with this phone at all since I got it back in April, it is on Orange, but not branded as I got it from the Carphone Warehouse.

Great Christmas present HTC.

Seems there is no way to legitemately (sp?) restore my phone to a pre-update state either. Fantastic.

yes it's a problem with unbdranded phones, happened to me with the last update.
i had to make a spare microsd into a gold card and install update manually from that. there is loads of info on here and the other forums how to do it

I had that same issue with the .2 update, and I am yet to see if they've fixed it with .5. Anybody else have any detailed info what's in this new update? I reckon some hotfixes since it's 5 MB.

By the way, YTFC Fan... shouldn't you be doing other things on your honeymoon? :p:p:p:D

Has anyone got this update on a zip file? I've only just managed to successfully install the .2 update and its now saying there is a .5 update available. I have a gold card but assume I'll have to do it manually again. What's on this latest update anyway?

Just downloaded over wifi and installed with no problem. I'm on 3 network with one of their original batch of phones direct from HTC - unbranded of course. All seems OK afterwards. Haven't noticed anything new so far.

Happy Christmas,

Stuart
