T-Mobile FROYO update

The amount of time it's taking them to brand and test the update has me quite worried that they are adding a ton of bloatware to it or removing features such as WiFi tethering. It just seems to me that it shouldn't take a month plus to get this released if they're only adding a splash screen and some bookmarks as their previous roms have.

I missed the previous T Mobile update before it was pulled. I heard that it included a volume fix. Will that (and anything else from the first update) still be included in Froyo?

The official line from T-Mobile is just "September". Nothing more accurate than that has been forthcoming from them so far.

You obviously haven't had to wait for T-Mobile to release an update before! They seem to have a company policy to never, ever give an exact date for their update releases.

no I havent, i must admit, i had a nokia 5800 on tmobile before the desire and ended up hacking it to get the most recent update - I just dont get - if he say it will september -then surely they have an idea when in september they are aiming for. its not as if these massive global companies dont work on deadlines etc with teams of people who are testing and writing and sorting this -i dont get why the control of information

TMobile are starting to really annoy me if you are releasing in september you must know when so tell me. Twitter communication still not getting anything other than September.
I am trying very hard to resist debranding and rooting - mainly because I don't have the time and am concerned I will cock it up. But at this stage I have no games or comics on my phone as I am using all the memory for apps that I use every day to make the phone function better.
Come on Tmobile - at least give us a date in September.

Ive now read somewhere on this forum that its now Oct - this get silly - can anyone (ideally working for a large phone network) offer a reason as to why this takes so long? HTC have released it, Im sure they checked a few times before they did - google probably even did some checks themselves before they sent it out.
Why the delay?

One for the consipracy theorists - maybe the networks delay so long to push a certain percentage of customers over the proverbial rooting edge and therefore saving themselves the hassle of having to honour warranty's which will save them time and money id guess. Maybe the networks really want us to root our phones.

Just out of frustration, I went the GoldCard + RUU option on my branded T-Mobile Desire this morning.
Haven't noticed ANY speed increase (I thought this JIT thing was supposed to make it faster?), and few of my apps gave me the option to install to SD card. Those that did, did install fine there but often the icon went missing/replaced with a default one.
What I HAVE noticed is that since the update, I have missed no end of texts and calls. It's worse than my old Hero/G2 was on T-Mobile with missing calls and texts.
Oh....I also don't seem to be able to go back down to 2.1.....gives me a bootloader error message.
I guess this COULD be one of the reasons T-Mobile haven't released it yet.

brykins, might be worth a fresh start from 1.15 again and OTA upto the newest one using Gold card, there is a chance that something might have not gone quite right last time...
The exp you described is the exact opposite to what I have had changing from orange branding to none, its now MUCH quicker, very noticable, (I can compare mine to my brothers) and now doesnt drop any texts and phone function doesn't have a 10 seconds delay on calling out. Maybe T-mobile haven't screwed the phone as bad as Orange did but you should still be running much better!

if you did a quadrant test before and after you would see its about 3 times more powerfull than it was. the os itself was already very fast so you may not notice anything straight away
do a quadrant test now and youll see how you fair to standard desire on 2.1
if you want to return back to 2.1 then look at the last 2 pages of the RUU thread where teppic mentions the "downgrader" utility

Well...have gone back to 2.1 for now. I used the utility in the RUU thread and that worked perfectly, so I now have an unbranded 2.1 Desire.
Few things....
First off, I did the Quadrant benchmark. Under 2.2 I got something like 1300 (can't remember the exact figure) whereas under 2.1 I am getting less than half that. But the phone itself seems quicker (sliding homescreens, rotating, etc) under 2.1 than 2.2. Very odd.
Secondly, I assumed that having gone to a stock 2.1 version, I would be able to check for OTA updates and get a stock 2.2 offered (to at least try again) but when I check for updates it tells me I am up to date. Also very odd.
