"Tasker" is a BEAST! (in a good way)

I need to create a Tasker "profile" that does the following:

1) Backs up LauncherPro settings
2) Backs up SMS history with SMS Backup
3) Backs up app+sys data with Titanium

...and does this every night at 2:00 AM. Is that possible?

I ask because I'm worried that Process 1 won't always take the same amount of time. Could I define a "trigger" for Process 2, e.g. "When Process 1 = Done, start Process 2" ?

Hi folks

I've got a few profiles to turn GPS on: Maps, Places, Navigation, etc. Is there any way I can have just one profile for all those apps, rather than separate profiles for each?

Thanks

Rob

Not sure you can have more than one app in a context, but you can definitely create a Task called (for example) "GPS On" and tie that task into the apps you have mentioned.

You may find that you have a problem with the Navigation app though. In fact could you please check/confirm this for me? When I ask Tasker to turn on GPS when I start Navigation, it doesn't quite react fast enough to stop Navigation being patronising and asking me if I want to Turn GPS on! It is not a dialogue box you can skip/cancel past! You can see that Tasker HAS turned GPS on from the icon in your notification bar, but the Navigation app seems oblivious to it. Clicking on the OK button takes you to the screen to turn GPS on, which automatically turns it off, just so you can turn it on again!!!! Arrrrggg!!!!

There is a setting within Tasker which says how fast it reacts to apps being launched. It's default is 1500ms. I have tried turning this right down, but it does not seem to get GPS turned on before the app looks to see if it is turned on.

For now I have done a work-around by creating a widget next to my Navigation shortcut which turns on the GPS (and turns up screen brightness and ups he volume level) before I start Navigation.

Oh and for some reason, if I asked Tasker to JUST turn up the brightness when launching Navigation, it would cause the Navigation app to close seconds after launch. No FC or error messages. Just bombs me back to home page.

Anyone else had similar issues with Navigation + Tasker?

I've got the tasks, thanks, but looks like I won't be able to merge my GPS-related profiles. Oh well.

Re Navigation, why not set up a widget to run a task that turns GPS on, waits a period of time (say 30 seconds), and then loads Navigation?

Ah! I wondered if Tasker could do time-delayed sequences! How do you do this? I have only had tasker a week and I'm still on the steep learning curve. Learning how to properly use the 'Variables' part is where I get stuck.

Edit: No....wait....found it! Nice one Rob. Thank you!

In the Task (as opposed to the Context),

Press + > Tasker > Wait and select how many milliseconds, secconds, minutes, hours &/or Days you want to wait.

I'm trying to figure out a good way to do "Car Mode".
i don't have bluetooth in my car, so that won't work. i had it set when i turn the phone on its side while being charged, but that causes all kinds of issues if i use it while its charging.

what i want it to do:
Start GPS, let Vliingo read all text messages out loud, answer all calls to speakerphone, and start Dailyroads Voyager and trapster.

what do you think, possible?

I use mobile defense for locating my phone if it's lost or stolen. The only problem is I never leave gps on so I would never be able to pin point my phone. With tasker, I set up a task that if if sms myself "gps" it turns gps on. Therefore, I could go on to mobile defense's website and and then track my phone if needed. Pretty simple and I'm sure others have done the same thing. Just wanted to share

Yes. Done the same thing with Wavesecure! Makes it a much more effective tracking app now. Set GPS to activate when Wavesecure runs (i.e. when you activate it the Wavesecure website). Very strange that this 'premium' award-winning app couldn't do that by itself but there you go.

By the time my Wavesecure annual subscription runs out in March/April, I will by then be able to figure out how to get Tasker set up (in the event of my phone being stolen) to call the police while the mugger sleeps, record the arrest and upload to youtube, call for a taxi home, pay the taxi driver via paypal and call my girlfriends phone so she can go downstairs and let him back in.

Will post the youtube link here should I be successful.

I want to do something similar, but I don't have a car dock. I suspect you would have to press a button to set a variable or something and then the tasker profile would detect that .

Actually.. there is a car mode app that simply turns on the speaker phone. Perhaps using this app in combination with tasker to allow the detection of being in the car and subsequently reading of sms, turn gps on, etc. etc.

Go to Menu>browse profiles

Go to powerplugin

You can download it all from there (1 click)

I use the car mode that downloaded and edited for me

(I downloaded Car mode from market and use that).

You can edit that carmode any way you want. I always plug my phone into power in my car, so I didnt have too much editting to do.

For those who have tasker and havent browsed profiles... it is an awesome way to see some ways to do things. You can download them AND edit them for your needs.

How can I set up Tasker to do the following:

Turn on WiFi when I get to my school. Turn off 3G.
On WiFi, I need to first go to the browser and enter a login/pass before I can access the internet. I'd like Tasker to fill this out for me automatically.

Any ideas?

I'd like to know this too.

For me I'm looking for it to enter my touchdown pin when I open touchdown.

Awesome suggestion. The only thing I couldn't get to is reading the SMS out. I have the SayMyNameDessert which is fired on the received SMS context IF a %INTHECAR variable is set to 1 (matches, or math equals would work?), which the car mode task does. It doesn't want to read it out.

None the less, this profile and set of tasks is excellent. Thanks for pointing it out.

I do believe that there needs to be a "Tasker for Dummies"....lol....like me. Tough learning curve on it....I love all it can do....

I told my wife there is no way I am putting Tasker on her phone because she doesn't even remember to pull her notification try down to check her messages...this would blow her mind. Now, I wonder if there is a way to get tasker to do that for her...hmmm....

I was under the impression that you could leave the GPS receiver "on" and that it wouldn't actually power up/drain battery unless specifically requested by an app. By turning "GPS Off," you're explicitly denying access to it. Since I've gotten the phone, GPS has been "on" the entire time, apps like Where and Maps etc. will show the little GPS icon in the tray when they fired up, so I assumed all was well.

Now with Tasker, while I'm playing with the gps, it appears to be toggling the "force gps off" setting. This interferes with my maps, Where, weather, etc. and I'm not really willing to "hack around" this by making Tasker unnecessarily keep flipping the on/off switch when other apps want to use the gps. Is there a way I can leave the gps setting alone, but have Tasker "wake up" the radio to get an accurate fix, and then put the gps back to sleep?

Can Tasker do what im explaining here?

http://androidforums.com/incredible...-can-i-mimic-functionality-juicedefender.html

I love the concept of juicedefender running data 1/15

However what i dont like is the occasion i open the phone to go to a site, and i have to go switch the data on. I use the JD widget to toggle it on/off

Is there any other app, or way, that i can enable data 1/15 or 1/10 but have it auto-enable when i wake the phone? And then put it back on schedule when phone is idle/sleep

I rarely do open the phone, but when i do id like the data to be enabled.

thanks

I really need to figure this out

I dont know, i actually dont have Tasker, but if it was capable of doing what i needed above i would definitely get it.

Looks like it might not work properly with CDMA damnit
