So somethings coming out very soon... Mynet.apk? Hoping someone here on the technical side can walk some of us through, installing, etc......

Thanks Fab. So I'm assuming through Root explorer system/apps.. Then what? Do you ned to long press and hit install or just set permissions and reboot. And one last questions what are the permissions set to. Ive never done this yet.. Thanks in advance..:D

It will probably be an app that will take advantage of the Easy Switch / 3G Hot Spot hack. A 1 click, free, 3G Hot Spot app.

I simply adb pushed mynet.apk to /system/app/ and then restarted... do I need to set permissions?

I just installed it like a normal app.

Haha... I've been hoping they would put this out... download failed for me too... but its gonna be sweet having multiple devices and not having to worry about the "ad-hoc" connection.. true infrastructure connection between phone and computer.

This mynet.apk is for deodexed right? Can't get the link to download to my X so gonna try the update.zip way.

I am deodexed and it didn't work. I downloaded it but it didn't install. I didn't move it to the system folder though. I just said screw it and did the zip file and clockwork and it worked fine.

if you try to install the APK you are going to get a certificate failed (At least my phone and wife's, and son's all did this)

I connected to shell, mounted system RW, and pushed Mynet.apk to /system/app/ and rebooted and works fine. Although, curious what the difference between this method, and just using wifi tether is?

I'm confused about that as well.

Read through this thread: http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...free-3g-mobile-hotspot-ap-mode-tethering.html

It's not the same thing. You're setting up a computer-to-computer Wifi network (ad-hoc). This restricts security, some devices are not capable of connecting to it (notably Android devices), and it is generally a less reliable way of connecting. Some software plays nice, some doesn't. Performance is generally worse because the devices are competing for the airspace without a controlling entity, signal strength is innacurate... There are lots of problems with ad-hoc mode.

Talking about the tethering..

All credit to Team Black Hat, right? P3Droid is now in debt to me. I expect a Fascinate and an Incredible in a week as well as a Droid Pro when it comes out. Think I'm playin? Let him know...

I installed this, yet nothing happens when I run the 3G hot spot application if that's what I'm supposed to be doing. I connected my computer, and there was no internet shared between them. Anyone else confirm or deny?
