thanks for the original idea (whether that is where he got the NVRAM idea from or not). this is a community where folks are constantly taking ideas they get from somewhere, and polishing the way in which they are implemented.
if he did get the idea from your posts (either here or on xda) he should give you credit. i'm not so sure he should give you an Incredible, Fascinate, and a Droid Pro, but you do deserve some credit.

that is just the application. you would need it provisioned thru verizon for it to work now (unless you use frewell's method). the patch hasnt been released yet. you will need to get the $2 team black hat app and download the patch once it is ready (which, it isnt yet).
Stick my discovery in his pay app? If he doesn't make this freely available, he'll catch his karma... I know I'm not the first to question his integrity.
No ifs about where he got it from. Check the timeline! All these other so called devs were whining and crying about the bootloader, while I made this discovery. P3's career at the edge of imploding with all the talk of abandoning the DroidX. Come try see me, P3....

Thank you. That's what I was confused about. So wait, the application I installed was just the 3G mobile hotspot app that's already installed on me phone? I have the TBH application and noticed the 3G Hotspot patch, but I didn't think anything of it because it wouldn't let me download.

You are correct, the TBH patch is listed but not ready for download yet.

dont get me wrong, you deserve credit. you made an awesome discovery, and you are owed thanks from us. i dont think what he is doing is wrong at all, but he does owe you a credit on this one.

nothing. but 1.) he isnt charging $2 for this exploit. he is charging it for the means to get all of his work, in one place, right from the phone. i wish other devs would do the same. There are 7 other pieces of work available in this app. and 2.) it will be available for free on the internet (just like the rest of his work) shortly after it is available in the app.
i just meant he will need the app if he wants it right away.

that is a direct quote. hes refining it. there is plenty of people on this forum that have had their work "sold" with rom manager and they were excited about it. you cant play as an amature and call out the pros. im no phone god but i do respect what these guys can do. everyone thats ever made a name for themselves started out doing something for nothing. now everyone knows your game. congrats.

Damn you don't come cheap! did you actually find the exploit? Did you write the code to implement the exploit? Seriously what did you do that makes you think P3 owes you anything? I seem to remember your post saying someone could probably make an app to do it (or something along thhose line) and that looks like what P3 did.
With that said I think I'll pass on this because this is the sort of thing the carriers can point to and say "See we need to lock them down so they don't steal services" I think there is a big difference between by passing a service (wifi tether) and actually using their (vzw) app to get their service for free.

You have hit the nail on the head, we actually sat on this for some time and are now releasing because the other hack was posted. but we had some great philosophical discussions before todays release, and if the other hack was not posted you would still not have this.
Well I still don't think we should do it. If you saw a bandit rob a store would you think its ok also? I would implore you to reconsider. I also see a big difference between freaking out VZW code (switching the radio on and off) and making an app to modify the nvram to get around it.

For whatever it's worth, the 'data' being used costs vzw the same no matter which app you use (3g hotpot, pdanet, wifi tether etc). The app just changes how you're connecting to it. Other than that, seems exactly the same to me.
It's not the data it the fact that you have to use VZW app and then mod your nvram to get it to work. Obviously VZW will not see it your way. It is a clear violation of their TOS and this is what makes it bad. I just can't see this being a good thing for the mod community and as soon as VZW finds out it may end badly for a lot of people also.
Like I said I'll pass and I would suggest that if you ever have any hope of the mod community being looked at favorably (long shot I know) you/we should also pass.
That's my .02 and I'm sticking to it.
Me, amature? P3Droid a pro? P3Droid is a sloppy hack... If he knew about this hole.. Why sit on it? So he could figure out a way to make people pay for it?
The implications of how VZ implemented to this pay service go deeper than P3Droid's little patch.
If you pay for this service, while you are tethered, any data going to your phone(which should be unlimited) gets counted toward your 2GB quota... Muddy water my friend. VZ need to go back to the drawing board. This stink of class action.

Ok so I got it installed. It connected, but my PC said I had no internet connection. I turned off hotspot then turned it back on, this time it wouldn't start the connection.
Anyone have any ideas??

I just tried applying the zip again and nothing. So far this doesn't work.

The app you install, I'm pretty sure, is just the 3G Hot Spot app. Team Black Hat is going to release a patch which will allow the free 3G as far as I know.
You can't use it right away. You have to wait for them to release the patch, but I don't think anyone knows when that will be.

Last night in the TBH app it said" (not ready yet)" for the 3G HotSpot Patcher, now it doesn't say that. I downloaded it from the TBH app and installed it using Clockworkmod and nothing happened. So even though it doesn't say "not ready yet" and you can download it, it still isn't ready??

Hm.. I'm honestly not sure. I didn't know they released it on the TBH app already. I recall it saying not ready. I'm installing now to try it out myself actually so I'll let you know if mine works or not.
EDIT: Mine connected the first time, but it didn't have any internet connection like your's. Then I turned off Hot Spot and turned it back on, and it said I was connected to the internet. I'm actually posting this from my phone's internet connection now. So I don't know what to tell you!

Those of you having trouble, just change the DNS on your computer manually to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google Public DNS) and it should fix your no internet connectivity. The hack works well and I'm posting this using my phone's internet connection.
