Telus - htc desire 2.2

I have lost my data.
I asume this is the APN settings?
How do I get it back?

Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access point names and input the below info.

APN: sp.telus.com
PROXY: 74.49.0.18

It may say connection failed and give you a little bit of on and off data connections, just give it about 5-10 mins to configure properly and it should be fine.

Thanks Dinaro.
I had Googled it in the interim and found it.

The network connections seems WAY faster that before.

Its nice isn't it? :) Even the sense UI is noticeably smoother in the transitions as well as getting in and out of txt msging and phone calls etc...

Definitely worth it. Giving it a bit of a spin but need to get email setup and apps installed again.

I was using Wunderradio before and the streaming was pathetic.

I want to reinstall and test the streaming. I swear my phone wasn't set up properly for the network before.

Froyo 2.2 has huge performance improvements over 2.1, if you benchmark with Quadrant between 2.1 and 2.2 you'll see the difference, I scored ~500 on 2.1 but 1390+ on 2.2 and even higher in CM6. Those of you that are sticking 2.1 saying you're fine, that's fine but you're missing out by waiting further.

My GPS doesn't seem to be working properly.
Are there some seeting I need to configure?

Edit: Nevermind....maybe just longer for the first cold start.

What was the voice app on the Telus firmware?
I used it alot for quick Contact finds.....or am I missing something with voice commands on Froyo?

Can I download the voice command app from the market?
I can't recall who made the one included with the Telus firmware.
I used it alot for finding contacts.

Is APN type literally * or is that supposed to signify a blank entry?

This is just my .02...but I really really don't think flashing the 2.2 ruu will have any effect on the TELUS warranty. My previous phone was a blackberry and I constantly upgraded to unofficial OS versions (thanks, of course, to TELUS not releasing updates). At one point I had a problem with the screen on my storm and my phone needed to be swapped out. I was running a leaked OS and they exchanged my device for a new one without batting an eye or looking at the phone at all.

As others have said, you'd have to be dealing with someone extremely tech savvy to have them notice a flashed ruu.

I use an app called Vlingo for voice recognition and it works very well, some say better than google's own app.

Just for those deciding between doing the RUU to 2.2 and rooting then flashing a 2.2 rom i thought id put out some pro's and cons.
FOR RUU:
Less simple for Telus to notice different software
A tiny bit easier besides the gold card part
Vanilla Sense
You wont brick your phone most likely (not to say you will with rooting if your careful)
FOR ROOTING:
A bit harder but with the right instruction quite easy
Use can use vanilla sense rom (2.2) or any other rom like CM6 or OpenDesire (much more customization)
Easier to tell the different software IF YOUR NOT USING STOCK ROM, but they still might be able to tell ur recovery (i doubt it)
When Gingerbread comes to desire, and it will (youll be able to get it instantly)
When New Sense comes to desire, you'll be able to get it instantly
FREEDOM to do whatever you want with ur phone (take screenshots etc.)

IMO it kind of ways heavily towards rooting, and if anyone wants the guide i used to root just ask for it in this thread

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this thread since last week when I was waiting for the Telus 2.2 update, which sadly is coming in Q4 ... :( .. I just the "adbird" post about the difference between RUU and Rooting, and I didn't know there are lots of huge differences between them and even if they are different !! I was waiting for the update from Telus, but I can't wait no more and I want to have 2.2 RIGHT NOW !! If someone can help me decide which way should I go ? I want to get gingerbread as soon as its available, can I get gingerbread with RUU or not ? do I get OTA updates with both ways from HTC ? Do I get HTC sense with both ways ? does the customization worths the rooting way or not ? If you guys can help me decide and then do the RUU or Rooting, I'd really appreciate it :)
help me get 2.2 today and join the fun that you guys are having right now :D

If you want gingerbread right away with no sense-rooting
Gingerbread with sense- rooting (but shortly after RUU)
Sense on 2.2- both ways
And rooting over all is very handy

if you have a mac i recommend Unrevoked for the rooting process
