Help Terrible Battery

I have the galaxy now for a week now and the battery life is terrible. I have given the phone several full charges with it off and restored to factory once but still only get 4 to 6 hours of use unless I literally do not touch the phone at all. I have a battery usage calculator and it runs 10% an hour on average but now as I use it with lightweight apps its running down 22% an hour. Juice defender and similar apps done nothing to improve and have been removed. Any help would be appriciated.

I had a similar battery usage when j first got mine found it was an app that was running full time in the background so phone never went into sleep. If you go into your standard battery usage monitor and check if there is a solid Line underneath the usage graph that means that the phone is constantly running something in the background. The line should be broken ie only solid when u are actually using it.
May help anyway I am getting a days use with anywhere up to 3 hours of screen in use time.

what app was it?

I have terrific battery performance on my Note.

I suggest you check for Software updates - Over the Air or via Kies and update latest firmware on your device. That should sort the battery.

1) Lower the display brightness
2) Instead of minimizing the unused apps by pressing the home button , press the right touch button to close them
3) Check the task manager to see what is using the CPU the most.

I find that Skype, vnc and other voip apps are hard on the battery. Basically if you are using an app and the phone gets hot then it is using a lot of CPU and that is going to drain the battery. Also apps that sync over the network are similarly hard on the battery.

Just keep an eye on what is running and see if you spot patterns.

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Eric Ritchie.

I'm only wondering if the op has the international version or the AT&T branded version. LTE drains battery like crazy.

App. That was killing my battery was steam it is an IM application that was running as a constant service

How did you discover which app was the culprit. I have the solid line that you mention but don't know what app is running constantly. I kill apps in the Samsung task manager regularly but rarely in the built in running services manager.

Here are the worst offenders. I have tested this on the S2, S2X, and the Note:

Freeze with Titanium Pro:
Social Hub (both processes)
Wifi Sharing
Wifi Sharing Manager
Software Updater

I rooted my Note and shut off Samsung social hub and other useless updates. I use my note hardcore from 7 am to 1 am at night. My battery goes down to 20% around 3 on and even more if I use GPS (even plugged in).

I also bought a zap it external battery pack which super charges my phone. About one hour for near full charge..I have this in my jacket pocket with a USB cord or it charges when I'm at the gym.

I then charge both devices over night with the phone in full airplane mode. Juice defender was okay but I got interference with my Bluetooth headphones because it was shutting off other programs and casings music to excessively quit.

I'm getting around 16 hours with 3+ hours of screen on. All I did was:

1. Root
2. Freeze the apps I mentioned with titanium pro. They constantly run.
3. Disable backup in settings>privacy
4. Don't use a stock kernel. I use CF-root, Abyss (now seems buggy) or Franco kernels.
5. Use BatteryXL (I think the biggest difference)

On medium use I will get around 20+ hours easy.

Stock I was getting 8 max

Try Battery XL app. No root needed. It does an amazing job at
extending battery life :)

I'm not sure why you would wait till ICS to root?
I want to be able to get ICS right away and would hate to be at the mercy of Kies. :(

I would also advice to switch to an extended replacement battery from a reputable brand like Mugen or Seidio.
For example: [HLI-N7000SL] Buy Mugen Power 2650mAh Extended Battery for Samsung Galaxy Note / Samsung Galaxy Note E160L (Korea) / Samsung Galaxy Note E160S (Korea)
On techspecs it is slightly more powerful than original factory battery but in real life performance you will sense the difference. And Juice defender kind of apps work better for these aftermarket product batteries. And Note does drain a battery big time. I even wouldnt mind to switch to bigger extended battery like 4000mAh for note, but couldnt find any yet. Hope Mugen comes up with something, cuz couple of hours on Note is indeed not an option.

Mugen has a 4500mAh option:

Hey mate all I did was uninstall all apps that I had recently installed until my battery usage changed.
