Root testers needed for TWRP/CWM/SD-EXT data

So yes the partitioning did fail for twrp several times after just giving up I rebooted from twrp and got bootloop. So i turned it off held volume down and power reset comes up i hit power it resets all of the sudden twrp reopens and I go to partition this time success. I have no idea how to reboot into twrp lol and now my rom is reset but still there so I have to get backup off other sd card.

To reboot into TWRP all you do is restart holding vol - and power, and itll warn you about factory reset, which would apply to the partition you made on the sd card, and then you hit power twice and it will load up....at least that's what it appears to be doing from my messing with it.

Factory reset from the confirmation screen has nothing to do with the partition on the sd card.

The confirmation screen wipes /data NOT /sd-ext and /sd-ext is the new /data but the confirmation screen doesn't know that :p

Ahhh I stand corrected. Thanks for correcting me as I really wasn't sure other than my info was still there on reboot

this is still in a testing phase, I do not want it to be too easy for people

later on when it is tested, and bugs are worked out, some one can put out some easy step by step guides with pictures and stuff

you know When
I stareted in march here I would look at a post like this and be be all confused, Now i am like oh that not too daunting reminds me link to sd But all my sd cards are in use plus I don't mind the free wipe "yet"

for some reason it seems to partition the sdcard a lot easier with the cmw 6 version, so I am not too sure what is going on

I am still not too sure if this will be a viable solution or not, I will wait for more test results to come in

like i said before, now that you are running your data partition from the sdcard, there can be performance issues and stuff, so I would like to hear more about that

I really haven't noticed much change if any performance wise. It runs like my phone did before. But I also don't really do many intense things with my motion either... played organ trail no issues, hot spot is fine, browsers are great, awesome SD card test results and Cerberus is better than ever.

i'm glad you made both cwm and twrp because i had to flash the cwm to restore my backup then reflash twrp. :) i got a 8gb sd card today. that should be enough for me for now. :D

It is also good that mentioned that CWM backups do not work with TWRP and vice versa, people should know this

what size partition did you make ?

5gb for data and the external sd is like 2.68 or something.
once i got it all setup and restored, 2ndinit recovery started working again. before all i got was a blackscreen. kinda wierd but whatever it all works now.

all we now is for power button menu in cm to reboot to twrp/cwm. maybe it could be done in a flashable zip so only those using this method could do it and the rom would'nt have to be rebuilt and reflashed etc..
edit: i guess the quickboot app will work for now.

So, I have a question; once these are settled in and working, are the respective developers of ROM Manager and Goo Manager going to be sent a request to include them into the respective apps? That'd be totally excellent if we could use either app to install the recovery and do backups, etc (I purchased ROM Manager a while back when I was using the Optimus M+, so would love to use it again).

Edit: thanks everyone for your hard work in testing these.

That's long ways away currently ;)

Because it has a locked bootloader...
Holy crap dude, you're so negative :p all of your posts are complaining about how this phone sucks, maybe you're not doing some things right, but look at how well his whole community is doing! We now have Loki which almost PROMISES more reliable recoveries and more ROMS, we have great devs and have good ports and have a lot of good people here in our forums that are always happy to help, I think you don't give this phone nor the community the credit it deserves.

Calm down i paid for my phone i can say what i want about the phone and i have been told to do this not to do that with this phone...i want recovery and i want to load a dam rom but i can't seem to do so and i ain't the only one having problems with recovery...i have been at this phone for 4 months now with only root and no recovery....anyways i'm from the esteem block this is a new phone for me..

True you could say what you want about it since you paid for it, doesn't mean there won't be people who will disagree with what you say, ROM developers don't like ungrateful people, candoopa didn't do this to get complaints about how this phone "doesn't work" and if you don't like these recoveries then use 2nd init recovery, it works too. These are just in testing phase because we don't want to have to unbrick over and over again, and the reason you can't do the things you want is because of the locked bootloader, be patient. You'll get a better recovery later, more roms later, you have had this phone for 4 months, I've had it for 8, I think you can be a bit more patient.
But anyways, enough of this, don't wanna take up candoopa's thread with silly disagreements.

Because LG and Metro decided to put very tight security on this phone.

All of the challenges we have been facing, are because if this.

we will need to get used to this type of stuff, this is the wave of the future, most new phones will have these issues

So my internal data has 700mb free instead of the 5gb. I think I may have messed up the partition.. Is there a way I can fix that to get it back?

i've been using twrp and sd-ext-data for 24 hours now and it's working great. haven't noticed any performance issues etc.. backups and flashing work great. loving the built in file manager. i'm using "Quickboot" to boot to recovery from cm. thanks again for taking the time to make this.
