Thank you for this work around. it works.I have been tethering the day i bought my Zmax. I only have it working for Windows using Chrome.
First!! Enter the APN settings and copy down the default Metro settings, Then add a new APN and copy everything from the default settings into it..
but in "APN Type".. make sure you add dun into it so it reads "default, supl, mms, hipri, dun"
(APN may look different on T-Mobile. just be sure to add dun!)
then hit save and use that APN
Go into your Hotspot settings and Configure it to what you'd like. Then, turn on the hotspot through the dropdown ui and it should turn on.
Then download this User Agent extension .
Enter the settings for the UA changer and add this custom UA string,
"
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_9) AppleWebKit/537.71 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0 Safari/537.71
"
hit save and use it.
tell me your results!
If this works for you guys as well, i might just make us a Tethering guide![]()

@Trevor Phillips you have a PS3 right? You may be able to use THIS TUTORIAL I found on XDA to use your hotspot for online gaming.
Im not sure which part of my post you're replying to so I'm sorry in advance. You're saying that you're able to tether your f6 off of your zmax, and that the tutorial I mentioned worked to connect your ps3 to your f6 but you haven't tried it with the zmax yet? Just making sure that I understood correctly if I'm incorrect please correct me.I did try it with the F6 and it went well. I have yet to try it on this device, I'll try it when I have time

woah, looks like Chrome removed it from the storeI tried USB tethering and I was redirected to a MPCS site stating that it costs $5.00 per month for Tethering.
BTW, the link for the Agent Extension is no longer valid.
With MetroPCS and T-Mobile you will always need to change the user agent when you are tethering for free, unless the device you are using runs linux, iOS, or AndroidI tried USB tethering and I was redirected to a MPCS site stating that it costs $5.00 per month for Tethering.

You can always use Fiddler web debugger if you use windows. Here's a guide on how to use it.woah, looks like Chrome removed it from the store
I haven't been able to get WiFi tethering to work yet. There seems to be software on the phone that detects and prevents that (hence the need for root).
I was able to use USB tethering from clockwork mod + a user agent stripper (fiddler) to use the phone's internet on my laptop...
I don't have a zmax but I've been checking frequently and there isn't any way to root or unlock it yet. Since none of the preexisting root methods work a dev will have to make a new root method tailored specifically to the zmax.Is there a root to this? That would be tough.
I've been searching all day with no luck.
Can't get it to work. When I tick the USB Tethering" box, I get a pop-up stating "Please wait while we verify your account" (Cancel) quickly followed by a pop-up stating "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped" (OK) so I'm unable to tick the USB Tethering box.
