Root Tethering?

Not trying to beat a dead bush, but does anyone know how I can tether to a tablet. I do have pda but can't find wifi in the market any more
 
Verizon had them removed for the market, plus on the GB build it is next to impossible to get it to work. There was an article last week on Droid Life about away to do this, but you have to go to the CM7 beta build, which is not for everyone, to do it.
 
PDA net worked for me on rooted GB and a usb cord. I am tethered right now with APEX and PDA, things are working great!

I've got a Moto Xoom and tethering via bluetooth is dead-simple and I believe is free of controversy (and does not require that either device be rooted).

Its just a matter of pairing the devices and enabling the "Internet Access" bluetooth setting.

Don't know if your device has this too or not, but it might work for you.

If you open Settings -> Wireless & Networks and turn on Bluetooth and try to pair your Droid X with the tablet, after you pair it, can you click on the "wrench" (configuration) icon to see the configuration screen? If so, does it have a "Profiles" section at the bottom that says "Internet access"?

Call Verizon and tell them you want to tether, choose a plan. Once set up fire up the mobile hotspot on the DroidX and configure. Bam, your done. Should take about 5 minutes.

It isn't "next to impossible". It's very very simple. Note: If you follow these instructions and tether, you are doing so at your own risk. You have been warned.

Instructions below:

Step 1: Download the "TBH" patch (here) and the "experimental" wireless tether 3.0 apk (here) and put them on your SD card.
Step 2: Boot into clockwork mod recovery (if you do not have it, Droid 2 Bootstrap can be found here) and install the TBH patch.
Step 3: Boot your phone up and install the wireless tether apk.
Step 4 (this may not be necessary but I had to do it): Turn on the 3G mobile hotspot app that came from gingerbread, and hit "configure", then set your SSID and security code to whatever you want. Then turn that off, we will be using the wireless tether apk.
Step 5: Open your "wifi tether" app that you installed in step 3, hit menu, then settings. The settings that work for me: Auto for the first two dropdown boxes, only the second "enable wifi-encryption" checkbox checked, the same passphrase and SSID that I set in step 4. Access control unchecked (muy importante) and everything else in the default.
Step 6: turn off your wifi try tethering. If that does not work, restart your phone and try again. It works the majority of the time, but occasionally I do have to reboot my phone.

i think there was a lot of controversy over the patch by TBH, not exactly sure of what though but i dont think its good lol, of course you do it at your own risk.

We have a verizon retention specialist answering questions in a thread in the Verizon section. Here's the thread.

He addressed this very point, saying he didn't believe there was a threat to tethering here.

of course debates are a headache, but luckily your question has been answered (i hope)
 
When doing the steps above, is it normal to have the yellow Tether icon and the white tether icon in the notification bar at the same time?
