The Bah-Humbug thread!

I lost one of the greater friends online, last Feb. I also almost lost an ex-girlfriend of mine several Febs back.

This year there will be no more deaths......if people are not so stupid enough.

So it's "this" time of year again and nothing changes. Tomorrow SiriusXM switches channel 70 to all Xmas music 24/7. This past weekend, my wife dragged me to the store to look at artificial trees because there'e no point in doing the real tree thing now that the kids are out of the house and the grand kids don't come here for Christmas.

That last bit ... i am royally pissed. I can't tell you how many people have said to me "Now that you have grandchildren, don't you feel differently about Christmas?" Now I've got the pressure to be festive for their sakes ... Don't want ol' grandpa scrooge to ruin Christmas. Oh no ... forget how much the kids love him the rest of the year.

Really what I am angry about is Holiday tradition. Specifically MY holiday tradition. Cut short, for 34 years i have spent my Christmas Eve at my in-laws because it was their tradition to exchange gifts on the Eve, not the Day. Fine, I remember the eve as the day of decoration. The wreath a few lights and the Creche came out with Advent, but the eve was for the tree and garland and everything else. Out of those 34 years I can remember 2 that were good. The year my son was born, and the year my nephews had the measles and we were told to stay away. The rest was fraught with stress, conflict and pettiness. By the time Christmas day comes I am so emotionally exhausted, whatever joy may have been trying to sneak it's way into my soul has been thoroughly extinguished.

Now, because my son's birthday is the 24th, we "get him" on Christmas eve, but in the 29 years he's been on the planet, Christmas at the in-laws always overshadows that event. And ... because we "got him" for his birthday, his in-laws get him (and the grandkids) for Christmas day.

Even b*tching about xmas starts earlier . ;)

Christmas is at my house. If you have a desire to see me or get a goodie you had best come by on Christmas day. Otherwise you are out of the loop. Keep in mind that I paid my dues through the years but my in-laws and parents are gone from this earth. I am the senior connection and will enjoy that fact over the holiday. Absolutely noting is on a schedule. Lots to drink and eat.. the wife will put together a traditional dinner if you care to stay. Move on if you don't like turkey.. we couldn't care less. That's the way it is.

I'm getting really sick about the whole gift giving/exchange bit. Every freaking year someone gets butthurt about who to buy gifts for, how many to buy, how much to spend, whose house do we do that at, what exactly does someone want etc etc.

Ya know what? Let's just NOT do gifts at all!! I really don't care. I'll buy my wife and kids gifts, THAT'S IT!

Criminy, the older I get the more I feel like @lunatic59 does.

Just wait all you young folks, Christmas will piss you off yet.

Every freaking year someone gets butthurt about ...

We have raised generations of entitled little snowflakes. :(

I highly recommend one of these. That's all we've put up for years. Set it on an end table, plug it in, and voila!

Except the wife wants something resembling what we've had for years ... a six-foot spider infested firetrap tree.

The conclusion to the tree saga.

We spent more than I wanted to, but the Mrs. is happy.

From cutting of the packing tape to full illumination ... 5 minutes. I can live with that. :)

And remote control LEDs, not those troublesome mini-bulbs, so we're good there, too.

It did not come with the dog. ;)

Thanks

Did it come with colors? Phase2 for me is colors.

Phase1

Phase 1

Yeah it's real but i need no birds in my house.
What holiday is that for?

Birds are ideally symbolic of Christmas, Bobby. They see something that is clean and shiny and you are particularly proud of and they crap all over it. And, if you let them evolve long enough without intervention, they turn in to bloodthirsty dinosaurs. ;) :D
