The BIG 2.1 Thread

Figured out how to get "card view"

Thanks, CRPercodani!

The trick is to hold the dots on the corners down.

Not really though. The version you posted was the original, unstable ROM.

This version has been modified to actually be usable.

Nice try though!

Whoa its a serious forum competition. I guess you are right though bugfixes make it a totally different unrelated thing. I should probably make a new thread now that there is a gps fix posted. Completely different. Possibly a new board for droid 2.0.1 too.

+1 (I'm an official forum games referee). Your turn. Please don't hurt my feelings though.

Haha, seeing my screenshot, I notice you can make out what my single task is, lol.

Anybody with sharp eyes read it?

It's because I just finished my finals yesterday, heh!

Hahaha, I was saying where is my golf clap for showing fabo how to get the expose preview cards. But honestly this is 2.1, that in itself deserves a clap, especially considering how stable it is.

golf claps all around.

Flan kinda fails at the media home thing. The program is very basic compared to 2.0/2.0.1. It takes two tries to get the time to show up. Weather, music, alarm, slideshow are all there though. It just looks much less refined.

Looks like this means the Nexus One will also be featuring a media dock?

Yea I heard it has some gold contacts on the bottom, sorta like a cordless home phone. The media dock app is definitely nicer on the standard Droid rom, but this one is nice. It takes me a few tries to get everything to load up right but since I have mine plugged into the USB on my touchsmart instead of the wall outlet it turns off after a few mins anyway so not a huge deal.

If something goes really wrong and you brick it then chances are they will have no idea what happened because it will be stuck at the M logo. Honestly though you really can't brick your phone, just make sure you read up on how to use adb and nandroid and you will be all set. Flashing a ROM can't break your phone, only the SPL or Radio could but we aren't doing any of that yet.

Do I install Busybox to my phone or my computer? Do I have to root my Droid to do it (I suppose should've been my first question :o)?

From all the post from people using the nexus so far they have all said it IS faster then the droid, so even if they have added nice effects, they have found ways to speed it up. I know it has a nicer processer, but in the google blog they say they are refining the code to make it faster as they pretty up the ui. It seems like people dont think they can have both fast and nice, its ok to want both and have both.

The Nexus One is a different phone with different hardware, it can't be compared to running on a droid.

I do hope however that you're right and Google will refine the code more before they start making it shiny.

Well you have a point, but I think the point everyone else is trying to make is that if you add shiny UI effects that don't serve any purpose besides to look nice, you're just bogging down the system. Like the animated background, or 3d app drawer. It's overdoing it on the visuals and it will end up slowing the phone down overall.

Don't you think Google has thought about this? Do you think google would destroy the performance of Android just for pretty effects? I don't think so. Google has too much invested in Android.

Just saw a vid on engadget mobile of 2.1 ported to the droid. in the video the kid says that he now has 5 screens instead of 3. that would be sick and no need for a unstable app to get the extra screens.

alldroid has posted the 2.1 rom and I have it running on my droid now. It is a stable rom and I actually like it better than 2.01. the only flaw I found was the backlight on the hard keybord isn't working.

So aside from the home screen stuff and eye candy, is there a summary of actual functionality updates/improvements in 2.1 available? That's what I really care about, and no one seems to be talking about!

Like:

1. Is BT voice dialing enabled?

2. Is exchange support updated to support remove wipe/pin lock, etc.?

3. Can you attach files other than images to emails?

4. Can you choose the "From" address when sending an email if you have multiple email addresses on your phone?

5. Can you copy an email address from an email by long-press on the email address?

6. Can you edit quoted text in an email?

7. Any night mode on navigation?

...and useful stuff like that.

Thanks!

Exactly what I'm waiting for. While I love the eye candy of pretty graphics, transitions, etc. Give me function then put on the polish.
