The BIG 2.1 Thread

Actually no one can give you there nandroid backup because it has all of there personal info on it. You would need someone to flash back to it then do a factory reset and make a backup of that, will be a lot of work. You should ALWAYS read the instructions and do everything they say to avoid a situation like this.

thanks, quick question though. I saw that you got 2.1 working with pretty much everything from another thread, was wondering if home screen switching is alot less laggy because thats the only thing that has been bugging me with 2.0 (also really like the look of 2.1) and if so would you recommend flashing to 2.1 then?

Homescreen transitions are super super smooth.

Have they confirmed this recently? Last I checked some minor upgrade was due in Jan, but sounds like you have new info. If this is the case I'll wait.

No it hasn't been confirmed. A lot of people here are saying it's gonna be 2.1 but I was under the impression it would only be a minor update.

unless you hear it from verizon/motorola/google it's just wishful thinking on everyones part. i know we all want 2.1 but to tell people to wait for it in jan. is spreading rumor.

I have heard too many problems with this forced update on the Droid; GPS does not turn on, losing contacts, and a few others that I don't. I feel I should wait until January. Besides, it is only next month!

You may be talking about the unstable build? Maybe not, don't know. Haven't heart any contacts issues though. And GPS works in this build.

Also there is nothing anywhere saying January is 2.1 month for us. Some people said we'd get a minor update, and its definately possible we get 2.1 with the calgary or w/e coming out, but there is no official word of 2.1 in january. So, I'm tempted to do this and be a couple months ahead. Except I love home++ so I'd lose lots of the benefits.

Haha, just trying to keep all the info in one place instead of having 7 different threads for basically the same thing. Also I think Home++ works fine with 2.1, but you can always go back to 2.0.1 if it doesn't.

Heh yeah np, was just surprised when I clicked post it ended up on a new thread. Saw that you did it in between though.

And yeah. I'm not worried about the process, pretty comfortable with bash commands etc. Just wondering if its worth it to me considering I won't get most of the cool new stuff like the drawer, the card view, etc if I use home++. Unless the speed of the homescreens in 2.1 translates to speed in all apps/home replacements..

I'm still tempted to leave, but home++ has been so stable lately, and no notification bar is almost a must for me now, not to mention a browser, bookmarks, and phone button dock. But I am still trollin these forums so obviously I am looking for a good reason to do so. If the animated wallpapers look real nice I may give it a shot.

I've flashed the 2.1 build and my early reviews are that it really is more or less stable. There are known issues with keyboard blacklight and possible GPS issues but those are being worked on. For the most part, it's mostly some UI updates, new gallery app which is slick, and new news/weather app. To me, the home launcher is awesome and I've ditched home++ since using this. I used to also use dxtop but again, this home launcher as mostly everything (except ability to use home in landscape mode). The app drawer has UI has changed and it's really just a much slicker looking thing, eye candy, but cool nonetheless. You now get 5 home screens and also the ability to long press bottom of the screen to pull up quick tabs to quickly jump to any screen. Live wallpaper support was not handled in this build, but a few people have posted "fixes" to get some things working, however these fixes have caused other bugs - for me I'm not even looking for live wallpapers so this is a non issue.

For me, the only real issues you'll see in this build are that it seems to have been designed for a phone without a physical keyboard, so we get the keyboard backlight bug and landscape mode on homescreen when using this keyboard has some UI flaws. I believe all of these are fixable.

Anyways thats my review for now. I cannot speak for any of the functional issues that people may hve with 2.0.1.

Yeah. I have heard/seen the new launcher is nice. But I don't think I can give up the option to hide the notification bar. Even ignoring how useful home++'s toolbar is, if I could handle the notification bar I'd be using GDE and 3dcube. It just looks soooo much better/sharper without it.

Maybe I'll do it and put some time into making it happen myself. Since it'll be rooted anyway.
