The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

Evolution - can you tell me a little more about the material that the red backing is made of? I'm curious to know if it is a plastic or metal material.

Why? To know how feasible/easy it would be to repaint it! :D

Specifically, the exposed parts. It seems the back is mostly plastic but the camera lense "collar" seems metallic?

the red ring is aluminum...
red backing is plastic...

i don't have paint experience so i can't comment on the ease of repainting

The browser does not fit text to screen when you multitouch zoom (pinching). It only fits the text to screen when you double tap to get down to the optimal zoom.

that dont sound right...
I have a Hero... and I can multi zoom.. and it will resize to fit. I do not have to scroll left or right.

He wants to know how you enable it, as some of the videos on youtube don't display the full screen animation.

On my Hero with custom ROM 2.1
the full screen weather animation is only availble with 1 widget. The BIG HTC Clock widget with the flip clock and weather. Then you can enable the animation in weather setup.

Then, when you unlock the phone (it has to be on the screen with the widget on it); do not touch the screen and watch the animation. once you touch the screen the phone will stop the animation and let you do your thing.

My guess it will the same with EVO.

Those are great pics!!
thanks!
Will the notification LED flash for more than 5 min. With or w/o 3rd party apps?

Thanks!
i don't know.. too lazy
I am posting this from my evo, luckily UPS didn't fail me either. The screen is awesome. I have to say the overall build quality is amazing. I had an iPhone before and did not believe anything would touch the build quality. I was wrong.
build quality is awesome! typing on it also is very good... i'm glad you got one early!

i like to have custom ring tones. how easy is it to change them? also do you know if you can have different text ring tones for different people like ringers

thanks

how does it feel compare in hand and pocket to the iPhone?

It's like any android phone. You can use any mp3 as a ringtone. You may be able to use other formats, such as wav, etc. I'm not sure.

i dont' know much about setting custom ringtones yet. andriod is a brand new device to me and i'm learning as we speak right now.

as for comparing to the iphone. i've held many versions of the iphone. this phone can't compete with the 1st generation iphone! that phone was built very solid. but if your comparing this to the 3gs, i like Evo much better. it's huge, easy to hold and the back battery cover has a matte cover (anti-slip) feel. also the curvature of the phone also makes it easy to grip (unlike the round edges for iphone)

So even if you were still iPhone biased you'd be impressed? That's just what ive been waiting to hear and makes me feel a lot better. I didn't want to switch if I was taking a major step back in build quality

cool because i have played around and held the iphone

Android has a built in ringtone maker. Any song you have in your music player you can then edit and set as a ringtone.

sweet
