The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

I cannot (well, barely). I don't make phone calls. I have four email accounts that I have set up to update every five minutes. I use Google Maps extensively (and the GPS is on, obviously) and some web use. I watched <1 minute of TV to see the quality (it's pretty darn good and I'm on 3G). Bluetooth is off; WiFi is off. I'll try having my email update less often... so far, I'm unimpressed with the battery life but I've not done more than a few charge/discharge cycles, yet, and often it takes 10+ to get the full capacity of out these types of batteries.

Well, update... I (foolishly) set up the FriendFinder (or whatever it's called) application that was just sitting there to sync up my twitter/facebook accounts. It sucks battery... removing that got me through almost a full 24 hour period without a charge (but it started at about 90% so it was not a full charge). So things are better... I do think the battery charges slowly; using the same charger as my Toshiba TG01, it takes a couple of hours to fully charge whereas my TG01 takes less than an hour. Smaller battery in the TG01 but not that much smaller. I'll try the HTC charger tonight to see if it's any faster.

I'd call it moderately strong. It's not the weakest I've used, but it's not the strongest either. Acceptable in my book, and I keep my phone on vibrate 95% of the time.

Awesome. I keep mine on vibrate 100 percent of the time. I hate ringtones, so I don't have any ringers on lol.

I just got mine, I had to drive 40 miles to get it though :P. I live in Downtown Los Angeles and no 4g up... yet. I haven't had a chance to try out 4g in the surrounding cities yet.

Well as an iPhone owner and Mac user, I have jumped ship. I pre-ordered the EVO at Best Buy earlier today. Too bad 4G isn't coming any time soon to OKC but as long as the reception is good I'll be happy enough with 3G speeds.

Just bought my EVO4G from someone (local) off of Ebay. He was nice enough to let me pick it up at 11pm! :) I have been watching these forums for weeks and can't tell you how excited I am right now! :p

Feedback/comments coming soon. In the meantime, ask me any questions that you'd like me to answer.

Can you post a video of some video games? A lot of youtube videos / reviews talk about the same stuff such as the camera, qik, youtube, hot spot, and speeds. Some game reviews/gameplay videos would be nice ;)

what was deciding factor for you?

Excellent, congrats!

All Q&A should try and be consolidated to the "Got My Evo" thread.

Mods, can you merge please?

Specs alone are already going to top the the new iPhone, and knowing that sooner or later I will have 4G towers in my city mean that the EVO will be great even a year from now. I have used an iPhone 3G since Dec 2008 and now the phone just pales in comparison to the mighty HTC. My mom works for Verizon and she uses a Droid, got one before they hit the masses and when I played around with it I could see the massive potential that Android has. Together, the EVO and soon to be Android 2.2 should pounce on iPhone 4.0 big time and also I'm looking to get off AT&T's ridiculous plans. Can you believe I have to limit myself to a 200 txt package just to keep the price even manageable? Sprint offers deals too good to pass up and the 30 day "test drive" will make the transition much easier. I'll have the new phone, see if it works where I need it to (and I'm sure it will). It's really a no-brainer.

Hey guys, just asked this question in another thread, but it wasn't quite as appropriate there as it is here.

Out of the box, can you take pictures using the front-facing camera using the screen as a viewfinder? I have a fiancee who loves her self-portraits. :)

Sorry to "bump," but... anyone?

Thanks for answering that front camera question, guys!

Is it like the Qik application where it gives you a mirror image?
