The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

Oh Ok I got you. Gosh this phone is like the coolest. I am still amazed at it. I needed a phone number just now to order food before work. I always just goole it from my home computer. I spoke so and so restaurant Louisville Kentucky and boom it came up so fast with the number and even had driving directions. I was like OMG! It's amazing!

OK I'm a little confused. I'd appreciate some help. There seems to be 4 applications on my EVO that one could use for navigation. I'm confused about the difference and purpose of each.

Maps - Of course this is Google Maps, but from within Maps you can get directions

Navigate

Navigator

Sprint Navigator

Sprint Navigator is clear to me. Coming from Verizon it is similar to Verizon Navigator. However what about Maps, Navigate and Navigator? Especially what is the point of having both Navigate and Navigator? I think those both are Google apps?

Yes someone mentioned that the phone did that and I tried it this am. It was cool!

I'm learning so much from these forums. I was confused too cause I know we have Sprint Navi and Google Nav which is the blue icon and I know there is Google Maps. But I didn't know what Navigator was and you open it up and it has Navigation so is that the same as the blue icon? And I didn't know you could say Navigate with the google search thing that is like so cool. Were going to Nashville next month 3 hour drive and I said Navigate Bridgestone Arena Nashville Tennessee and it came right up it was so neat.

But under search settings you can check mark music and other things so can you use the Google search for other things. Like is there a list of commands for you to say? I tried saying open or launch and it didn't work with Google but then I opened voice dialer and it worked. I said open online which Sirius is under online and it opened right up. Is there like a PDF file somewhere that tells more in depth stuff about our phone than the actual book? Cause I could read that online on my phone on my dinner break at work. I keep finding out new stuff it does and I love it. I told my friend and he said Navigate to so and so and he was like wow! It's Great!

1. I have the facebook app on my EVO, and for some reason when i push the "phone" button to make a call, all my facebook contacts appear in that screen. I went into accounts - sync and turned off the sync contacts option, but they are still there. Anyway to get rid of these? its a pain to scroll thru all the names to find the ones i want.

2. I would like to setup an additional email account on my phone, its a basic hotmail account and i cant figure out how. I saw the info on the pop3, but i dont think this applies. Any info would be appreciated.

I apologize in advance if my questions appear trivial, I am very new to this type of technology. Thx!
 
I can't figure out the FB thing neither and it's bugging me. There is a way to add HTC Sense FB and not sync any contacts but then you don't even get the ones in your address book. You can go to people and menu and view and uncheck FB and you don't see them when you click on people but when you go to phone and see people or message and menu and people or email you see them all and I hate that. HTC guy said he has an Incredible and his does that and there is no way around it. I downloaded a program called call confirm so I don't accidentally call someone. But I want my main contacts to be liked. So either all or none from what I understand. I had it to where I added FB for HTC Sense and didn't have any contacts synced but it won't let you just sync your contacts in your people list. Not as far as I know. It aslo adds everyone to your calendar but you can uncheck that.

If you haven't picked one up already, I'm finding the body glove case to be the best thus far!

Can someone please help me?

Okay, I turned of APN thinking it would turn off 3G. It did not. Now I cannot turn it back on? I feel like I turned off something important needed for the phone.

The only issue I have is that the plastic is thin around the volume rocker and bows out a bit... I thought that it may simply be that my case was defective, but when I arrived at the Sprint Store earlier today to exchange the case... the same issue presented itself... It's the best case I've used so far, I hope to see more in the very immediate future!
 
Hey guys, is there any good cam app, or any other method to enable the volume buttons to capture the photo, rather than the touch screen? I feel as though it'd be easier to hold it steady, and just seems like it'd be an all-around better way to take the photo. Thanks! Oh, also, what about other good cam apps in general?
 
They should have put an option that I love it and I'll be keeping it 1 year until my upgrade is available again! LOL
 
Now why did Sprint have to misstate or mislead everyone with the sales numbers? Now all the Sprint/EVO haters have more ammo. They should ve just shut their mouths and wait to give more accurate numbers. :mad::eek::mad::eek:


On another note does anyone know if there is a way to change the Sense gallery to android 2.1 stock gallery. I think its much prettier then the Sense gallery. I already tried to deactivate Sense, but it only changes the UI and app drawer graphics. I just like the way the stock android photo gallery interacts with your accelerometer. I think Sense is killer but their photo gallery is kind of boring. Any tips?
