The HTC EVO 4G off-topic Banter thread

Is anyone elses Evo constantly rebooting itself? This is my second Evo with the same problem! Only does it when I'm on a call... I've on the internet to see if can find something on it but no luck. If someone has had this please let me know

Is your phone actually rebooting or are you briefly seen the white HTC screen while it reload HTC sense....ie your home-screen?

Chilling in the car with the wife...song comes on the radio...1/2 way through we can't figure out who the lead singer's name is...

Pull out Evo, load up market, download Shazam, it listens, gets the song, click on the mic on google search widget say "lead singer" and bands name. Browser loads with lead singers name.

All that in probably 35-40 seconds. I was stoked.

Also tried the "genius" button they show in teh mytouch3g commercial. I hit google mic and said "ice cream" and sure enough, google maps popped up in the search with 5 of the closest ice cream shops.

I love this phone.

Yeah, it goes off, I see the Sprint 4g screen.... it only does it mostly when I'm on a call, this is my second evo! I took the first one back because of the same thing! Other than that I love the phone!

If you haven't tried Vlingo, do. I live this app, what swype did for text messaging Vlingo died for voice commands, searches you name it. It isn't cheap; however you would have the 24 hour trial period. I personally love it, I was in a bit of a hurry yesterday but wanted to text my mother-in-law to let her know I was on my way, I hit the Vlingo button on my widget, spoke what I needed to say and it worked perfectly.

Friday 7/2 ... Walk in to The Shack with intentions of buying my daughter a new messaging phone. After looking around for a few minutes I asked the salesman..."You wouldn't happen to have an Evo would you?"
Him ..."Well, actually one just came in ... Do you want it?"
Next thing I know I'm walking out with a brand new Evo! Yippee!!!

Build quality (screen/bezel light leakage) seems to be good. Everything works great so far, nothing to complain about except the volume out on earbuds could be a touch better.

This is my first smartphone(coming from a very old nextel) so I'm still finding my way around the android os. Easy so far, with what I want to do on the phone.

Rhapsody app (beta) is da bomb! My music, my playlist, how I want it, when I want it. Love it, love it!

Thanks to everyone here who has contributed to this forum over the last six months. You've made my transition to the Evo so much easier.

Thanks guys ... and no, daughter still doesn't have a phone.

My new Evo has opened up a huge can of worms for me at home... Wife, son, daughter, all three with old LG Rumors... all three lines qualify for new upgrades. Son and daughter were all set on new Rumor Touch. After playing with my Evo the both said " I want THAT PHONE!"

I tell them we can't afford it right now. They say "we'll wait"... impatiently.

Sorry, but the wife don't get a new phone. Saving her upgrade for the latest greatest phone at Xmas. She gets my old Evo. Sometimes you have to let them know who wear's the pants in the family (sure hope she doesn't read this).;)

Does anyone know where you can get the "official" HTC marked case like ARR22 got from HTC? Looks pretty nice. Is this the same one they sell in the spring store?

I assume the sprint store one does not have the HTC logo on it, like the one in the photo above? Is the sprint store case fairly tight around the device?

It does have the HTC logo on it. It's about as tight as a silicone case can be.

Only complaint I have with mine is that since it's a silicone case pocket fibers and such always stick to it.

Does Vlingo work better than the voice app that is already on the phone? I know we can already have it type our text when speaking and with Handcent it also reads my text. My friend loved Vlingo on his BB Tour. Just wondering what it does that the phone doesn't already do and how much better it is. My friend got an email that he could switch over to the EVO for 10 bucks since he already paid for the app on his BB but he never did it. But he said Vlingo was really good.

Same here. I returned mine after using for for 28 days when I received my Innocase Active LE. No pocket lint sticks to mine and it's more protected. Only $10 more shipped.

Good Idea.

Does the Innocase Active add much more bulk then the Silicone case? And is the silicone portion of the Active case much different compared to the HTC silicone? You said lint doesn't stick to it now, so i'm assuming it's more dense or harder or something?

it cost $9.99 in the Market for all android phones!

Does it work better?? it seams to hear my words better. It also says that over time... Vlingo learns your speech and will understand you better.

I am still trying to figure a way to enable Vlingo on the keyboard I use. So that it can be used in Handcent POP window for replies. Anybody know???

lol ....this guy walks a very fine line between a-hole and alpha male

Ha! I guess my attempt at a little humor missed its mark. Believe me, I know who wears the pants in the family, and it sure as hell ain't me. I'm "dumbed down and numb by time and age" (The Avett Bros.). She runs this ship.

But speaking of the EVO, suddenly my wife - who to this point has cared less about smartphones -tells me her phone isn't working correctly anymore...and further more, the kids REALLY do need new phones too.

I'm telling you people this Evo business is Evil business! A pandoras box of trouble.

If you're a family man, who wears the pants like me, don't ever bring an Evo home.
