The "I just got my Nexus 7!" thread

The only question I have is about redeeming the credit and then proceeding to unlock the boot loader...but I'm assuming since you bought it preowned you didn't get the credit correct?

Oh here's a question. Was the device reset to it's original state when you got it? If it was, did you quickly receive the 4.1.1 OTA?

It was reset, checked for 4.1.1 and got it immediately.

Awesome. Because I want to unlock it and put ClockWorkMod on it, and you can't take the OTA with custom recovery. So I plan to 1. Power it on and get Play Store credit 2. Unlock 3. Power on and take the OTA 4. Install CWMR 5. Root

Is this the correct order to do it? I was thinking of powering it on and rooting it first, then doing everything else. Would I be better updating it and then rooting?

Well unless you use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper you would lose root after taking the OTA anyway so there isn't really much of a point to do it first

Cheers bud. I've not rooted anything for a while...been toying with doing my S2, but as I use it for work I can't afford to not be without it if I mess it up. The new Root Toolkit looks pretty idiot proof tho so will defo do my Nexus when I get it.

Doesn't matter which order you do it in. I restored the device to 4.1 stock to try and help one of the one-click method devs out, then Rooted it and flashed 4.1.1 in CWM recovery.

I preordered my Nexus 7 from Gamestop, was told I was going to be part of the "Second Wave" for shipments listed as 8/7 and was surprised/thrilled to get a phone call this morning saying I could come pick it up!

You have just made a lot of Play Store buyers very VERY jealous.

I was totally taken back. I didn't think I was going to be receiving it until August being apart of the "Second Wave". As an FYI I traded in my iPad 2 towards the Nexus 7 so I have a frame of reference as well. I'm all yours guys for any questions you may have!

First impressions? Speed? Any lag from screen to screen? Is the screen bright? .... Um... OH! Check to see if you get that image impression "ghosting" if you leave a bright image on the screen for a minute them change screens. LOL sorry just tired of reading "blogger" crap. Looking for info from a user ;) .

After playing with it for awhile, are you glad you traded in the Ipad 2 for it?

And how do the apps look on the device if you've tried any?
