The "I just got my Nexus 7!" thread

Not sure if any of you have run across these issues but my Nexus 7 has the screen coming up on the left side. Almost like the adhesive is giving away. Screen makes a slight sound if pressed hard enough.

I also notice the occasional screen flicker as well.

A couple members have reported it on the XDA forums.

Even with the issues i love this tablet, just hope my Gamestop gets some stock soon so i can exchange it.

I'm amazed by this tablet. We kept our ipad 3, but got rid of the ipad 1 tonight. The 2nd N7 is on order for the wife.

i dont think he can

for my questions

face unlock yes or no?

google now is it practicle from your view?

is the box THAT damn hard to open?

Yes, face unlock is there.

Google Now, it's hard to tell as it takes time for it to learn you. So far I can say that there are good things and bad things about it. It's neat when the search results come back and are spoken to you but.... unless you're asking general mindless facts, that doesn't happen very often. I usually just get a web search results page. For some reason, I can't get it to send a text at all using voice commands. (Result of the dumbing down for Apple?) Before I left work, I was searching for Staples and Sam's Clubs to hit up in my search for a N7. When I opened GNow on my GNex, I was seeing traffic cards for those stores. Would have been cool if having cards for those places mattered to me but they don't so I found that to actually be annoying. So I'm still waiting for it to learn where home and work is and to take another trip!

Yes, that box was hard to open.

:D
My question is about the movie editor which was new in 4.0. My Sensation didn't get it with its ICS update, and as the 7 doesn't have a camera I'm wondering if it's on there?

No, the movie editor isn't on this tablet but I wasn't expecting anything to do with content creation on this tablet. (And I seem to remember having the movie editing app on one of the versions of Honeycomb for some reason.)

Got mine yesterday, a preorder at Gamestop. It was funny -- I stopped by the day before, the 12th, and the guy sheepishly acknowledged that my Nexus was there, but that Gamestop/Google wouldn't let them release it. Got the call the next morning to come get it; took about a half hour though, as their computer system still had the price at $9,999.99.

So, impressions: very, very nice. The speed is perhaps what is most noticeable; moving from app to app is basically instantaneous. The screen is very sharp. The unit is light, very easy to hold. I have messed around, bought & returned a couple of android tablets -- this one definitely is different, a much, much nicer all around experience. I haven't had time to really try or get used to Google Now yet, but it was interesting -- I had to make a short trip yesterday for my job, about 70 miles away, googled the address on my tablet. When I got up there, just for fun I looked at Google Now and there was the weather for that town and traffic conditions around the location I had googled. Pretty slick.

One other point. Voice recognition off line works very well. I am frankly astonished at how well. For making a quick note in ColorNote or Anydo this is a terrific feature for me.

You can't ever be satisfied can you? Lol :D

There's a reason why I've had 9 tablets.

Face unlock - Don't know. Am scared to take the plastic off it before I can get it in the case.

Google now - Unimpressive to me. I opened it and it showed me the local weather as well as traffic to my old job (this was after 1700 when it was showing me this so long after closing time.) It may take time to "train" it though.

Box - ridiculously hard to open. Have a crowbar ready. I'm not joking.

From everything I've read and viewed, Google Now will need to be "trained" before it reaches its full potential

Wow @ 9 tablets. I'm 8 behind you! (Technically 9 behind until I get my N7, lol)

Movie Studio, I've just checked and you're right. Never had a tablet so I was misten. I was looking forward to it arriving in ICS when my Sensation updated but HTC left it out for some reason. It's a shame that it isn't on there, I wonder why it isn't?

Thanks anyway, hope you're enjoying the new slate.

Just walked into my local same club and thy had 4

I haven't had much time to play with it yet but I'll try to answer any questions you guys have

The left side (when held in portrait) is ever so slightly raised up compared to the opposite side and will move back down a bit under pressure. I don't think it will fall apart but I'm anal about my devices so this may bother me a little.

I'll be merging all of the threads from people who have recieved their N7s here, otherwise we'll have dozens of them by the end of next week. Congrats to everyone who already has theirs :)

All of you that have yours, How does your screen look on the left side?

I seen several post from people saying theirs is raised up above the edge of the case. One person pushed his down very hard and got the clip to snap back in place.

I got the OK to pre-order mine at Gamestop today (hubby said yes, I'm a giddy geek now). I'm tempted to call down now that the guy who took my pre-order is likely not there to see if I can pick it up if they have any in the back that haven't been picked up yet....shifty, but who knows. If not, I was told that mine will arrive probably on the 17th. Not a bad wait.

I do think it's ridiculous that the GP pre-orders haven't gotten priority receipt. I know third party likes to release early to gain potential buyers for being "cool" or something, but it's sad. It would be nice if the GP pre-orders got something else on top of the pre-order bonuses (credit + movies and music)....like maybe additional credit or a free case? I don't know, I feel bad for those of you who did order it right after the announcement and still had to wait while others walked down and bought/received same day.

Hopefully the GP pre-orders arrive for you all soon. Now I'm going to see what additional apps I need to prepare to upload....

I work at GameStop and the day I found out we could preorder it I did, its by far the best tablet I've used by far. I have 4.1 on my g nexus as well and love it.

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. I picked up my Nexus 7 from Gamestop yesterday but i just opened it just a few minutes ago.

Does anyone else noticed that the N7 has a noxious, chemically smell? The smell rubbed off on my hands (I didn't even take it all the way out of the plastic film yet), and even though I opened it 20 minutes ago or so, I can still smell it on me. I've had a Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab 2, and my husband has an iPad. None of them had an odor. Just wondering if anyone else noticed it, or knows what it could be.

Once I get more time, I look forward to catching up on these N7 threads and getting to know my new tablet!

For starters, how did you get it yesterday and you just opened it now?? I'm ripping that thing open as soon as it's on my doorstop! :D just messin' with ya. Welcome to the forums!! :) I personally have not received my device, but I experienced something similar when opening my Transformer Prime. I'm quite sure it just has to do with the packaging it's in, and perhaps how hot it was wherever it was being kept. After a while of being exposed and used, the smell went away on my Prime. I really wouldn't worry about it, but I suppose taking a cloth or something and giving it a slight rubdown wouldn't hurt. Again, havent personally received mine yet, but I expect it to just go away after some use. Hope that helped :)

Thanks for the welcome, Atmazzz and Patriot123!

I'm studying for the bar exam and only have a week and a half left til the big day. Unfortunately that means I don't have time to play around with the N7 just yet. But when I do... :D I broke down today and wanted to see my new toy in the flesh so to speak, so I finally opened the box. And once I opened the box, I figured there's no reason not to give it a little charge. You know, just in case. ;)

Anyhow, I hope those of you who are still waiting get yours soon! Have you checked out your local Sam's Club? If you preordered from GP, you could always pick one up from Sam's and refuse delivery from GP... Just a thought.

I was about at the point where I was ready to do that, but getting my shipping confirmation and tracking number calmed me down a bit. When it comes down to it I guess, it's only just s few days, though having it over the weekend would've been nice. I've waited this long, so it's only a matter of time! :)

Oh, and good luck on your exam!

The issue for me is the slight raise turns into about 30-35% of the tablet becoming like that and it creaks.

Now the tablet works 100%, but it is an annoyance. Already talked with the manager at my local Gamestop and they said they are willing to make it work for me. Just have to wait for another one to come in to exchange it with.
