The Intercept 2.2 Froyo update thread

btw no txt from VM yet and no update. been a customer since nov. intercept owner since dec.

this is pretty lousy. why can't this just update across the data connection from a samsung server or google server that's too bulletproof and well-funded to even be close to crashing? 5000 a day... terrible.

I suspect them holding it to 5k per day has more to do with increased calls to customer support than server bandwidth. Nobody wants thousands of calls in queue and hour hold times if they happen to brick thousands of phones all at once. Hopefully it's going smooth overall and they can open the floodgates.

Ok, so I just reset my phone to factory default from Privacy menu on phone.

and now just got notification of the update, it's trying to install again...

Heeeey !! it worked that time.

of course I had to wipe all installed apps, but I don't care, got'em from the market anyway.

Good luck everyone else. I'm off to play with froyo

Hey, can you do a photorec (undelete) of your update.zip file from your SD card so you can help all of us that are not in the 5000?

We'll call it the "Feeding of the 5000, more" or something. There are video tutorials on how to use photorec to recover deleted files, and you can help a TON of us out, if you were a willing participant. (Just don't drop the file off on the SD card as a destination[or you can overwrite the data], and just select the ".zip" file extensions).

PLEASE?!?! hehehe

A little on the battery....

As I have the update, I have been a little obsessive with downloading new apps to test (very happy so far, every app I have tried runs great). Last night, I took the phone off charge at 5pm and played around downloading, installing, playing, configuring until 8pm. At that point I had 65% battery remaining and was pretty impressed with that (I also streamed Pandora for an hour as I played). I forgot to place the phone on overnight charge and expected it to be dead this AM. To my surprise I still had 50% battery remaining!

I had used the phone WAY more than I ever normally do and before the update the phone would be dead overnight with no prior use. It could be that I no longer need to use "LauncherPro" and that may have been a battery hog - I dont know.

Very happy so far with battery life.

Quick question to those who have the update; I understand that I notification pops up on the screen prompting the update. Did this notification pop up over the "Drag to Unlock" button? Or was it only after you unlocked the phone did it appear? Also, was there any type of noise or vibration to indicate that there was a notification?

My phone gave no indication there was an update until I unlocked it. Then I was immediately greeted with a "Update Available" message...

I have this issue with easytether too and I don't think it's the cable. Try this,
with easytether running,
close the keyboard,
hit end talk button to turn off screen,
then plug in the cable.

this works every time for me to get the usb and debug icons. HTH

Thanks, I'll have to try it but I figured out a way to get it going when I was trying to root my phone with superoneclick pc app. If you do the shell root it automatically does it all for you. The only problem now is that superoneclick says I'm rooted but I can't run rooted apps. Anyone root this thing yet?

Who has errors when installing either SDX-sourced Froyo zip files in recovery or the official update from the popup? I've got a non-stock recovery and where it says Apply zip in the top level menu, it says it can't find the directory on my SD card. I get E:/ drive errors when applying zip files, but I haven't touched the Dalvik cache location and I've cleared all caches and reset to factory state in the regular UI. What's next to troubleshoot?

I posted this in the other thread, but I want to make sure people know about this so I'll put it here too.

"Warning to those who have yet to receive the update. Make sure your notifications for apps are turned off. I got my update overnight last night and before I could install it a notification popped up that there were new wireless networks in range. I closed that and guess what? Update notification was gone too. Now it look like I have to wait for it to be available to everyone unless anyone has any bright ideas."

Some users in the forum were unable to update due to lack of memory on their phone but were able to update after factory resetting their phone under Settings > Privacy. Not sure if this will work for you but it's just a guess.

Didn't work, thanks for the idea though. I called the "support" line and they verbally gave me the finger. First they hd me explain what the update was. Then they had me check the update option, then they said the update will be available to everyone in 2 days, which turned into a week, which turned into a couple weeks....

I asked the Virgin/Boost rep who came into my store today and he said he thought i was screwed. Really bummed about this whole situation. Sucks to get excited like that and have it ripped away.

plug your sd card in to your computer and do a search for zip files. see if there is a folder called cache and if there is a zip in there, or a update.zip in your root.

upload it if there is and i can tell you how to update should be like 98mb

Nothing there, I'm going to go ahead and assume I am SoL until the update is live for everyone or someone puts it online.

The only root I've been able to get to work is Z4 temporary root (it's rooted until you reboot, basically)

That's all I've ever done done because permanant root never worked. What version of z4root are you using? Also does anyone elses apps that were moved say dec 31st 1969 as the install date? Here's another I received a message saying 20 dollars was added into your account a while back with a blank sender? Must have been an april fools joke.

Does factory resetting deactivate your phone? For some reason, on Monday and Tuesday, my phone has been extra sluggish and I'm led to believe that I did get the update prompt but through all the sluggishness, accidentally closed it. Sad.

Ok so Ive had 2.2 for all of an hour or so and its great and all. But no flash:mad:. I mainly want to watch shows off sites like Adult Swim that require Flash player. Anyone have any luck with a usable flash version or a work around?

Yup, notations in our update said flash would not be supported.

Download the Skyfire Browser, that supports most flash.

I have the Froyo update and it really is a nice update. However, I no longer needed the use of LauncherPro as the update made the stock launcher just as fast. I moved a bunch of apps to SD card and then went about setting up my shortcuts to the homescreen for my frequently used apps. The problem is that on occasion the shortcuts disappear from the homescreen and also from any folders they were in. Obviously this is a hassle to keep setting up shortcuts on my homescreen.

I have read that a reboot will bring the shortcuts back - it does not. I had to reinstall LauncherPro to fix this as it seems to hold onto the shortcuts - any ideas how to fix this?

Id rather not use LauncherPro as its not needed other than this issue...

Thanks!

Mine dissapear sometimes too...well not just shortcuts, pretty much everything on all 5 home screens. they usually come back within 10 seconds though. Usually sooner.

If I hit the home button it doesn't even show anything in there!

I don't have launcher pro

I have done the restore factory settings like 3 times and I've never had to reactivate :)

Well I have more luck with skyfire on 2.2 then I did 2.1 but it still only seems to work here and there. Im sure more and more people will be messing with this now that the update has graced the masses
